Not impressed with the Pure Gold Yunnan batch I had last Saturday. I enjoyed Keemun a lot more.

Has anyone tried Chinese Congou (Ning Hong Jing Hao & Panyong Congou)?

Guess those would be Fujian red teas like Golden Monkey and the like. Heavy on the chocolate/malt, and usually with a sweet finish. Also, not quite as smokey as Keemuns. My two faves have been Bai Lin Gong Fu and Tan Yang Gong Fu from Jing Tea Shop.

Nice for a change, but I'd still go with a good Keemun.

+1

The lesser Congou is generally pretty uninteresting and is usually made with lower grade leaf. The better ones are pretty good, but I would still choose Keemun over the best Congou more days than not.

Japan is definitely under-represented here. I vote for Japanese black tea from the Makurazaki production area in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. I've had great black teas from China and Taiwan as well, but this is the one I can't stop drinking once I start.

Britt, I have never tried Japanese black and will have to give it a try. Do you recommend any place for getting Makurazaki black?
