What tea would be closest to pre-German Darjeeling?

The Darjeeling flavor loved by the Germans and Japanese (among others

) is the result of re-thinking processing in the 1960s. But what did it taste like before? Are any teas similar to pre-German Darjeelings still being made?

I would say any 2nd flush Darjeeling that refers to "traditional" would be where to start.
