Black Teas that won't break the bank (for iced tea)...

Hey everyone, I'm looking for suggestions for loose black teas for iced tea that won't put me in the poor house if I drink a couple of large pots a day (and where to get them).

I'd like a basic black and also a couple of mildly flavored black teas, such as a mild raspberry with the flavor coming in as a brief finish (as opposed to an overtly obvious flavor). Other flavor suggestions are welcome too.

Flavored black tea must be the cheapest on the planet. It shouldn't be a problem finding the stuff. Sorry, but I'm not much help because I don't touch it.

Adagio Oriental Spice is excellent for iced tea. So is their Chocolate tea.

Try ceylon -- not flavored, but perfect hot or iced, and generally not very expensive.

Yukon just took the words right out of my mouth- ceylon is the standard for plain black iced tea. It has a great taste that you can add flavoring to, and is fine on it's own as well.

I make awesome Iced tea from Indian Assam tea. At my local asian food store they sell a commerical brand tea call Brook Bond Red Label tea.. Good malty tea. And CHEAP!

Great! Were's the best place to buy it? It doesn't look like you can buy it directly from www.ceylonblacktea.com (which is apparently the exporter's web site).

I make awesome Iced tea from Indian Assam tea. At my local asian food store they sell a commerical brand tea call Brook Bond Red Label tea.. Good malty tea. And CHEAP!

High grown Ceylons can be had cheap and are great for iced teas. I prefer the high grown because they tend to be fruitier or more floral vs the lower grown ones which are more ordinary.

Ceylon Tea is black tea from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka (the country) was known as Ceylon before 1972.

All of the Flavored Tea from Adagio is made with Ceylon tea. That might be a good place to start, I havent tried them but they do get good reviews.

I am partial to high grown Ceylons vs the ordinary Ceylons. High grown almost always has more character.

I am not sure what adagio uses for their Ceylon, I would suggest asking them.

Almost any vendor has Ceylon in their line up, so it should be easy to locate. OP is a decent enough grade for iced tea and is easy to work with. BOP can be a bit of a pain to work with.

Upton Tea Imports has a nice Ceylon BOP that I favor. It's $4.40 for a 125 gram packet, but they also carry Ceylon OP for the same price for a 125 gram packet Very nice for iced tea with a little peppermint thrown in.

I find Adagio's Ceylon Sonata to be a great base (or stand alone) iced tea: https://www.adagio.com/black/ceylon_sonata.html

If you like flavors you can't go wrong with any Adagio flavored black of herbal teas either.

Dragonwater.com also has some good prices on many teas that make good iced tea.
