"an invigorating blend of African Teas" is all they are copping to.

Which probably translates to CTC black teas from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and/or Mozambique. They're...bracing. Which I guess is what a good Irish Breakfast should be. They stand up well to a fry up.

i wonder why all the commercial brands are so secretive about their blends

Probably because none of them are a tried and true recipe along the lines of 10% from farm A, 30% from farm B, etc. Consumers expect commercial blends to have a consistent taste, so their always using teas from different sources to maintain a that consistency. Tea just doesn't taste the same from harvest to harvest. You've got to mix it up a bit.

A little ambiguity is probably a very healthy thing in this case.

There was a special on the History Channel, and the guy (from Bigelow?) was blending 40 different teas together to create a blend.

No need to miss it! Someone posted a link to the whole thing available for download or watching right here.

It seems like this Modern Marvels special comes up a bunch, so I'm downloading it now.
