Assam Black Tea in a Can?

Hello,

I am looking for Assam Black Tea in a can ready to drink. My wife is from Guam and she says it comes in a brown or tan can. If you have heard of this I would like to know where I can buy some. I appreciate all of your help.

I don't know if they have Assam, but my local Japanese mall (Mitsuwa's, they're a national brand that used to be called Yaohan's) has quite the supply of canned teas and coffees in their supermarket. You may be near one of their branches, or perhaps try some smaller asian food store (there seems to be at least one in every suburb of Chicago).

A friend of mine claims that dyes are used in black teas. I have never heard this, and can find no evidence to support his claim. I told him tea has been used as a dye--why would they need to dye it? Please let me know, someone, is dye used in tea to darken its color? I think not, but I need some back-up on this. thanks

Back in the 19th century green teas from China were occasionally enhanced with dye. Probably because the liquor looked too weak or too make the leaves look better.

At the end of the century (1897) the U.S. instituted laws to prevent this practice and other countries followed suit.

So far as I know, black tea has never needed any kind of dye enhancement.

I'm sure that it could be done, but it is easily detected by the experts.

Black tea in a can exists lol I'm from Guam and I know what your wife is talking about Dale. Haven't found it anywhere in the states though.

Honest Tea makes an assam tea in a bottle. I enjoy it almost as much as Adagio's assam.

Assam Black Tea in a can, or plastic bottle, is apparently produced by a company in Taiwan. I just returned home from a month in Palau, and it's widely available there as well as in Guam. Terrific stuff...a bottled/canned iced tea that actually tastes like tea.

I moved back home from guam about 4 months ago and ive been looking every where for assam black tea in a can, its the best tea Ive ever had and I was wondering if you know where I can get my hands on some.

I just want to know that, in U.S.A, what type of tea are very popular, is it Green Tea, Black Tea , Herbal Tea, Fruit Tea or Instant Tea ?

Thanks for the note.

While we're working hard to change this (give the lesser-known teas the spotlight they deserve). Currently, the most comsumed tea in the US is black tea, usually in the form of iced tea.

Hi,

I love tea! I have been drinking for years... I believe I started drinking tea (Salada, I know a lot of you don't call that tea but I like it) when I was 8 years old, I am now 35. Here is my question: What does it mean When it says on a box of orange pekoe tea that it has been cut with BLACK TEA? Isn't Orange Pekoe black tea?

Thanks for the post.

"Orange pekoe" actually has nothing to do with the variety of tea-- could be green, black, etc. Also, it has nothing to do with oranges or orange flavor. This is a very common misunderstanding. It is merely a classification of leaf size.
