Does anyone know where I can get oxygen absorbers (aside from eating packs of beef jerky for the Keplon that's in each package)? A search on google brought up Keplon's site, but no link to purchasing. I would love to keep my teas fresher, in a way that's more simple than gas flushing!

Great alternative to nitrogen flushing. Here is another site...I might contact them tomorrow for a quote...might be cheaper...or might not be. Depending on the outcome, I may be interested.

Sorbent Systems have more appropriate sizes...looks like I will go with theirs...they are much cheaper too.

I would appreciate any tips you have on working with oxygen absorbers. My biggest concern so far is keeping unused absorbers isolated. I see Sorbent Systems is usually recommended, but their large "master bag" sizes seem inappropriate for home tea applications.

I think you will really need a pro grade vacuum sealer (chamber type) for a dessicant to really do much good.

That hasn't been my experience using the sorbet systems oxygen absorbers over the last 6-7 years. Has your experience been different?

Update, one year later....

Many of the containers I used were not truly airtight. However, I've just managed to open one airtight container of 2013 maojian. This was an aluminum screwtop canister with a silicone gasket, which someone bought me from tealuxe a good long while ago. Last year I opened the tea, shared some with friends, and then put the open bag in the canister with a 300cc OxySorb. I'm assuming a resultant vacuum was what gave me a hard time getting the top off. (Since I cracked the seal, it's much easier to get the lid off.) Smells fresh, tastes fresh....

It's difficult to manage all those absorbers. Once you open the pack, the clock's ticking on all of them. I bought the 300cc size not because I thought I needed that much power, but because they came in packs of smaller quantities. I put some unused ones in an aforementioned canister and they generated a lot of heat. I will probably move to larger quantities of smaller resealable pouches, rather than canisters and the like, if I continue to get lots of greens.

thanks for the update, Evan. The details that you give are useful & serve as an example of challenges of testing. I have found top quality resealable pouches to be easy to use & reliable. (Bought 500 of them & sell them to teachatters for 32 cents each plus shipping). I do use a tea caddy & 2 tins for tea that I go to daily. I like writing on the outside paper of the pouches-- which tea, when bought, steeping suggestions:

maybe some tea company should make a product: individually sealed packs of oxygen absorbers accompanied by color-changing oxygen indicator strips or tablets. i'd buy some.
