The International Ceramics Studio Needs YOU !

The International Ceramics Studio Needs YOU !

The International Ceramics Studio, based in Kecskemét, Hungary is under threat after 35 years of opening its doors to ceramic artists from all over the world. Over the years the studio has overcome many problems to become one of the world’s great ceramic centers.

Because of recent political decisions, government changes and re-organization the Bacs-Kiskun council have decided to merge two financially insecure organizations into the Ceramics Studio, removing the artistic and financial independence from the International Ceramics Studio.

A new director has been appointed who is now planing to sell the studio’s impressive collection of ceramics to raise funds for the other organizations. This new director has no background in ceramics and furthermore was the director of one of the two financially unsound organizations. The bleeding of the studio’s funds into these other organizations will put the future of the studio at risk.

As ceramic artists who owe a great deal to the International Ceramics Studio in terms of artistic growth we are appalled at these decisions. We freely donated our works made in the studio to be included in their collection and not to be sold to support financially insecure enterprises. The studio needs the help of every like minded artist to protest and change these politically motivated decisions.

The International Ceramics Studio needs your help NOW !

I'm sharing this important information with the Teachat community becasue of the connection you all have with the ceramic arts. Given the typical status of art and ceramics in the political spectrum in almost the entire world, this kind of thing can happen anywhere. We as a community of ceramic artists and ceramic art lovers need to help to make sure that the precedents are not set for such actions. We also need to help preserve the legacy and the collection that this organization has established.

best,
