Best n' Worst of 2K7

by xine » Nov 1st, '07, 14:25

So the traditional list of the best and worst tea products will be in next month's Teamuse.com- does anybody have any 'nominations' for best and worst products in the tea industry? Or even tea industry banter too. Post here so we can debate.

Here are lists from previous years:

I definitely have the #1 worst right here:

...and the price tag is just an added bonus, of course.

The worst is those gross to-go instant "tea" packets from Lipton etc where it's sweetened with Splenda and other artificial garbage.

What about tea soda? I know that Steaz and Blue Sky both sell various sodas of various flavors 'infused with the benefits of tea.' Blech.

Hm. Come to that, Smirnoff's Raw Tea could be both the best and the worst of 07...worst in that the beverage itself is foul...but the internet 'music videos' (Tea Partay and Green Tea Partay) were something of a hilarious viral hit.

Definitely the bluesky, that stuff was super sweet crap. Steaz, the sodas were bad, but the energy drink is Fair Trade, so it gets my love. I know, my love is cheap.

I'd also like to nominate Hansen's "lightly sweetend" teas. 46 grams of sugar per bottle. Its disgusting.

I have one to put on the worst list.

Lipton's Iced Brisk Green Tea. I did a review of it recently. It tasted like apples and no where near like green tea. Yuk!

Please remember that these products have to have been released this year- is the Steaz tea soda new this year?

Oops, sorry. No both the steaz and blue sky have been around. I think the hansen's teas are this year though.

Alas, no.

According to their history, Steaz first production run was in 2002. I think, however, that their contracts with Wild Oats and Whole Foods *are* 2007. I can't recall seeing their products there before.

The Blue Sky company was established in 1980, and was bought out by Hansen's in 2000. In 2006, Hansen's released the Blue Sky Tea soda line consisting of four flavors: Imperial Lime Green Tea, Peach Mist Green Tea, Pomegranate White Tea and Raspberry Red Tea. In that same year, Hansen's released their own tea soda line, consisting of four flavors: ginger, lemon mint, tangerine and pomegranate. They also released a diet soda line of the first three flavors, and in 2007 added diet pomegranate.

Smirnoff Raw Tea and Green Raw tea, however, were both released in 2007.

I think the Smirnoff Raw Tea is a candidate- for worse. I had a couple, and they were good, but I think I would have thought of them as actually tasting good if I was like 19 or summin. I just drin gin and tonics now, I can't stand most sweet alcoholic drinks.

Though, I do remember the music video- the country club boys or whatever- coming out last summer, cos my best friend's boyfriend (who kind of looks like one of the dudes) would bust out randomly with full verses of the rap.
