whats the modern point of view with Earl Grey with milk in it. personally cant stand having milk in it and it feels slightly wrong

Personally I feel that there is not a wrong way to drink your tea. While I personally don't like my earl grey with milk, I do enjoy cream earl grey flavored tea.
I know of people drink their chamomile milked. Really, its just about tastes...

Agreed. I drink earl grey with skim milk because I like it that way.

Earl grey with a heavy rich cream also sounds tasty for a desert tea, and as nina said, the 'modern view' can be whatever goes, since peoples tastes vary so much

Whether or not I put cream (yes.. real half and half) in my tea depends on my mood. Sometimes yes.. sometimes no :mrgreen:

Some Earl Greys use Assam tea as their base, and strong Assam plays very nicely with milk, even when it is bergamot flavored. :D

I just had a big pot of Earl Grey because it was the only way I could get my husband to drink tea with me, and I need to go through my stash. We both put milk in ours, but I avoid sugar.

I don't generally put milk in tea, but I think strong Earl Grey actually tastes pretty good with milk, relative to other types of tea. The bergamot flavoring is a very bold flavoring that comes through even when adding milk, and I find Earl Grey is usually made with a strong base tea that would probably taste good with milk on its own.

I remember as a kid waking up every morning to find my mother in the kitchen eating a piece of toast with earlgrey and milk. Drinking it without milk is inconceivable to me, but thats because i grew up with it that way

EG is one of the teas I drink with milk, it was also one of the first teas I drank.I've been doing it this way since I was a kid so it's a strong habit.
Also, Earl Grey is one of the few teas that can stand up to the taste of fish roe spread.
I start every morning with a huge cuppa strong, black tea with milk. Has to be "lättmjölk" (milk containing 0.5% fat) or it tastes bad.

Other teas I drink without.

Black (western style) tea is the only kind that I even consider putting milk/sugar in. Though to be more specific that's almond milk and agave nectar or honey these days.... Whether I add these depends on the flavor profile of that specific black tea. For example, keemun typically doesn't get any milk and darjeeling almost always does.

Anyway, with earl grey I typically don't add milk, though I like it both with and without.

Earl Grey is the only tea I take with milk and sugar. I absolutely love it this way, though it's not bad without milk. To me, the most important factors when selecting an Earl Grey are a solid base (whatever blend of black teas is used to accomplish this) and a strong, rich bergamot taste and aroma. The best I've found so far is JING's, and Steven Smith Teamaker also makes a good blend called Lord Bergamot.
