On special occasions I'll brew up some 50's Red Label, and just sip the tea clouds through a gold straw. I don't even bother drinking the tea. In the tea world, it's the most baller sh*t you can do! 8) Crazy cha qi!

I had some really sweet Eun Moo yesterday on a blend of two ten year old pu-erh. At one point it looked like there where two tea cloud huricanes spiraling around my cup at the same time. Not the biggest ive seen by a long shot but really mind blowing paterns I might not have noticed them if this thread hadn't had me looking for them.
sorry No pics though :(

Hrm, I noticed this effect very strongly yesterday when I was enjoying a 2011 (yes, 2011) shu. I took a couple of pictures... will share when I get home tonight if I remember.

I'm not really sure I had noticed the effect before, but I had the right angle of light coming in from the window and it was extremely pronounced. Very cool to watch the patterns shift...

Not that surprising. I hate to be the mystical qi fog party pooper, but this effect is really dependent on two factors. 1) How dark the tea is (as the light colored steam stands out better against a dark background), and 2) how hot the tea/cup are (the hotter they are, the more steam). The age of the tea, its pedigree, or its value all have nothing to do with it.

This is not to say it isn't pretty though.

Agreed, tingjunkie. I noticed that I could gently "blow away" the fog and it would quickly reform. It probably arises from steam condensing on dust particles in the air, in which case it would be independent of the tea and as you say -- more likely for hotter liquid, and more noticeable with darker liquid.

Actually, I think if you meet the Buddha in your tea cup, you are supposed to blow him away.
