1993 Sheng

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

1993 Sheng

Hi,

I just got an extremely nice offer of ~150€ for a 1993 7542 per Bing (Hong Kong Storage). Apparently the same as EOT is offering for £228 as an 1993 Menghai 7542.

Should I buy this or should I pass this on?

Personally, after tasting some older Pu, I'm completely for: keep & enjoy in 20 years.

Thanks.

Hi Jan,

Ours has been stored in Taiwan since the mid-90's, so you'd need to check the storage out for yourself with these other cakes.

If it's good tea though, that sounds like a good price. As with all old puerh, you really need to sample it yourself & be wary of the pitfalls.

best wishes,
David.

That's a shade less than 200 US dollars. A Menghai Dayi 7542 from the early 90s, which I'd want to drink are enough more than $200 that I'd check its teeth if I were you. Not unbelievable--distressed sale, perhaps, but potentially scammy. If you've already sampled it and liked it enough to pay, well, never mind what it actually is and how wet-stored it is...

I've already ordered and received a sample and if OK I'll order a bing and if OK I'll order a tong (I'm a software developer by day ;-), so if's are my daily bread and butter).

So there is some tasting which I need to do. Apparently this is a Hong Kong stored tea. I just ordered an EOT sample to compare this to before spending this much on a tea.

BTW: The seller is using a special condition in German law which allows selling without tax. This might also be a factor. If the seller would be selling with tax I'd need to add 7% to the price.

Thanks so far,
Jan

If this isn't nasty or extremely wetstored, let everyone here know who the seller is...

I sure will. I need to wait about two weeks for my EOT order to compare to. If this is a hit I will report.
