I need some clarification from people who know more than me about puerh teas.
Puerhshop sells 2011 CNNP CLASSIC 7581 BLENDED RIPE PU-ERH, and it has the following warning there: "Be aware there are a lots of fake 7581 bricks selling at a lower price. Watch out all 7581 bricks made before 2006, they were fake or knockoff because Kunming Tea Factory did not produce a single piece of 7581 between 1994 and 2005. "
Now Yunnansourcing sells:" 2003 CNNP CLASSIC 7581 BLENDED RIPE PU-ERH TEA".
Am I missing something or is someone selling a fake puerh?

Does not matter.

CNNP is the label. No, the Kunming tea factory didn't make 'em, at least not officially--think the Kunming Zhongcha brand lapsed, but the actual factory continued to operate, because of the whole privatization pathway that saw Dayi, Xiaguan, others become independent of state control. Why you should buy from reputable people or taste first. Some of them are good knockoffs, and some of them are bad. It should be noted that there are a number of very positive reviews about a 2002 7581 floating about the web. One should also note that Zhongcha's re-entry in 2006 is often cited as a reason for critical expansion and implosion of the puerh bubble 2006-2007. From what I gather, I probably would not say that having it be officially Zhongcha made on whit of difference in quality, especially early on in 2006/7.

Sometimes these write ups by vendors rub me the wrong way.

I have no idea of the second, but the first does look like the packaging for the tea that is enjoyed by various people.

Bagua,

it looks to me that the second one is a little wet stored...but I can't really tell. still, neat. at that price, i'd say try it, you can't really lose...much.

As I just learned with an exciting 1999 7542 bing episode in Malaysia, it doesn't matter so much if it is real or fake. Much more important is the flavor, i.e. the quality of the leaves and the storage. Not exactly the answer you are looking for, but a good lesson I have recently learned. Always try before you buy whenever possible, even if you have to buy a small sample. Good luck!
