How is the humidity level 55 floors up?
Being that high from the ground there is less danger of the tea absorbing sea water aromas.
Re: Thoughts from a new Hong Kong bo lei drinker
On rainy days, humidity can go up to 85% or more. My home is dehumidified, except for my bedroom, where my tea is!
Re: Thoughts from a new Hong Kong bo lei drinker
Drinking fu zhuan tonight...free sample of a 200g brick sold by Hebe's Teahouse. You can find her on Facebook if you ever want good fu tea--she knows her stuff!
Crazy weather in HK. Humidity was down to 25% today, and it's 38% now. It will rise back up to 70-95% on Wednesday.

That should make it more pleasant to sleep at night or even drinking tea while celebrating the Lunar New Year.jayinhk wrote:Humidity was down to 25% today, and it's 38% now. It will rise back up to 70-95% on Wednesday.

Yes, really pleasant weather, but there's a huge fire burning in Tuen Mun! Tinder dry conditions.

Looking into crossing into Yunnan from Vietnam next month; since I'll be up north, it's not too far and I can pick up some of the maocha the local tribes drink too. It will mean spending more on a Vietnamese visa though (I don't need one if I don't exit the country during my stay). Food for thought...

You mean tea for thought?jayinhk wrote:Food for thought...
Hopefully the visa is not too expensive .
Re: Thoughts from a new Hong Kong bo lei drinker
$50 US. I may just stay in Northern VN and do Kunming later in the year. Tickets really aren't that expensive!
Re: Thoughts from a new Hong Kong bo lei drinker
I really need to learn Mandarin. My limited Canto won't get me too far, but I am learning as I go (easier with a Cantonese base).
Re: Thoughts from a new Hong Kong bo lei drinker
Oddly warm and humid weekend here in Hong Kong for this time of year. I left my bedroom window cracked and let the 92% humidity air in. The rest of my home is dehumidified. Humidity dropped down to 57% today and it's significantly cooler too, while it was T-shirt weather over the weekend. My bo lei cabinet smells incredible now. Seriously intense aromas when I opened it up. I think the fluctuations here really do make all the difference.

Hung Kueh FTW!
Or Pek Mei!
Or Southern Mantis.
I didn't go to the good Kung Fu school when I was in HK (born there and left when I was 28).
You really need to go to Zen Tea in Kowloon City. 仙福茗荼

Toby, you're right, I really need to take up some good kung fu here. Hung Kuen really appeals to me. I need to stop making excuses and train!
Tried to Google Zen Tea (in English and Chinese) and can't find it. Got a link?

I recommend the T93 ripe brick (T93 熟磚) and 2000 light traditional/wet Eight Zhang raw cake (2000八中青餅)。Just a generic tea in CNNP wrapper. But it is really good. I didn't buy it last time because i already picked up a 99 Fu Hai Yiwu there and also paid for the 2001 Xiaguan, 1999 Fuhai Yiwu, and 2007 private press Meng Ku i got from HK Tea Forum I eariler on, also a tong of Brown Changtai from a collector.
BTW, They also have 2003/2004 Brown Changtai 棕昌泰。They even have 3 versions: traditional/wet 入倉,natural storage 自然倉 and super dry one 乾倉。
