how much sheng in a teeny tiny pot?

I recently got a 30ml pot, and grouped it with sheng puer.
I've tried doing 2g/30ml and thought it was simply too much, the pot really rounds off the puer, so all i'm left with is incredibly concentrated smoky sheng taste (blech).
does anyone have similar experiences?

I think that's just too small period.
A lot of pu'er has leaves larger than will fit in such a small pot.

Assuming from your description of the taste and the pot, I'm guessing that you are talking about very young sheng and a yixing pot; have you tried using glazed porcelain for brewing this kind of tea?

I have put 1 gram of a very precious old shu in my teeniest pot. I save it for those preciou$ old shu that I buy by the gram, and don't use it for the young shengs that can find appropriate accomodation in larger pots.

The smallest pot I use is about 50ml. 3-4g is usually fine. Flash brews usually work well. Depending on the shape of your pot, the size of the leaves can pose a problem. The easiest solution is to place the leaves in the pot with much of it sticking out the top and simply pour the water in. You can then push in the rest of the leaves easily and discard the first brew. Somewhat a pain, but doable.

As far as your tea being smoky, of course that has to be the tea and not the size of your pot.

CORRECTION:Measured the above pot again and it is 60ml. 4g is good for me. I almost never use big pots for sheng. 100-120ml is the biggest.

+1

I use my smallest pots (30ml, 40ml etc.) for the old and expensive tea. So I can steep the living daylights out of it and taste it as musch as possible.

my sheng pot is 150ml ... in contrast ... and I don't always steep till they have nothing to offer...

That said-- when I fall in love with a tea I like to have at least a 90 ml pot--- so I can really enjoy it.

It can get a bit dear, budget-wise... but then, tea isn't so bad compared to say... scotch or wine.

Don't worry too much about weighing the tea. Just fill the pot up 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 etc, depending on how loose or compressed the tea is. I have a loose Yiwu with very large leaves that I fill the pot right to the top since it's so "fluffy."
