So you guys are experienced in the compressed tea 'verse. What's the general thoughts on bamboo packed pu'er?

I had ordered there in the past, and they used to have full tubes of bamboo packed pu'er I thought might make an interesting conversation piece, if nothing else. Unfortunately it's just 15g samples now - will have to find someplace else.

The bamboo flavor is nice, but predominant. Think of it as a flavored/scented tea. Gotta love the "Traditional Dai Minority" emphasis.

Puerhshop has a bamboo packed ripe tea that is pretty good. Purepuer.com has a bamboo packed green puer that I have not tried.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I think I'll order form Pu'er shop this weekend and grab one of those tubes. It'll be my first order from them, so I'll have to hunt around their site and see what else I like.

I have ordered from them three times no and have been very happy. Expect to be trying four teas you did not order as that seems to be their standard free sample, each enough for one cup.

You cannot call them as they are strictly internet, but they reply to emails very fast, generally within an hour or less during business hours.

Had some great stuff from ChaWang shop. Naka raw. Not sure of the year. Looks like they are sold out of that exact tea. They do have this Naka, bamboo:

I checked out that site, looks good.

Don't think I'll go for that one - raw, less than a year old. But, it does look very nice. Are these tubes typically exposing some of the tea like that? I don't imagine it would be good for quality. Partly interested in one of these as a display.

I think he cut it open to show how it was packed. Mine came without bamboo. It was just cylinders and had a few years one it. Also it was spring harvest.

Ah, so are these normally sold sans bamboo? Not quite what I'm looking for, though I'd still try it out.

Ok, so I finally got myself one of these a few weeks back. It was a 2009 bamboo packed ripe pu'er from Pu'er shop.

It came in a sticky-labled bamboo tube, which was fun to wedge open. The packing end was sealed by a plug of paper and clay, which was interesting, and evidently was something I hadn't picked up on in the video on the site.

I measured out 10g, gave it one short blanching, and then infused it in my thin-walled kyusu for 3 minutes with boiling water. The resulting infusion was very bamboo flavored, but it wasn't as overpowering as I feared. The hot leaves also gave off a strong bamboo aroma.

While this is most certainly not a high quality tea (you can make much more money putting it into a cake), it isn't repulsive in the least. Certainly unique in my collection, as nothing else has a neat little wrapper like this one (save maybe the bamboo leaf wrapped 2010 Raw I have).

Give it a try if you like; it's only 7USD / tube.
