Checking tongs for mold?

I just received my first tong and stuck it in my pumidor. Normally, every other month I go through to unwrap all my teas and check for signs of mold. However, I would like to keep the tong all together to preserve value, flavor, and ease of transportation. For those of you who have a tong do you just leave it together and pray that it doesn't get all moldy, or open it to check on mold and piece it back together afterwards?

I keep one nekkid brick as a sacrificial mold indicator. I have noticed mold will form first on a bare surface before a covered surface. I've never opened a wrapped tea to find mold.

Yeah, it seems that unwrapping bings regularly is going to expose your tea to more airborne molds, or at least unstable humidity levels, defeating the purpose of your pumidor.
