Nothing like the high quality ones you guys all rave about, but it was on sale for $10 at Pu'er shop. Worst case scenario, I'm out less than an hour of pay :p

I had a 100g mini cake a few months ago. I knew this one would be big (3.57 times as massive, exactly) but that didn't translate over to just how much tea there is in this thing. It isn't tightly compressed, which is good, and rather uneven - stone pressed rather than hydraulic, I presume.

Hope to brew up some tonight or tomorrow!

I thought those resulted in very tightly compacted cakes? Ah well, the more you know!

or it could be one of those metal sheet and cloth thing then pressed using those hand turned wheel presses (kind of like a huge clamp).

I don't think I've seen those. I've only seen hydraulic presses and the standing stones used in videos.

"In comparison to the most teas sold at your local chinese grocery stores, this tea would be instantly ranked as a 'premium'."

Never believe product propaganda ;)

Anyways, I only got to try this in a big pot, about 6 cups in size. Was over at a party, grabbed this on my way out. Naturally, after blanching and whatnot it doesn't have a very strong flavor. I think I used about 14g for 6 cups, which isn't an especially high concentration, anyways. However, it is very much shu pu'er. Not revolting, which is good. Not memorable, which is expected. I'd put it up with meal-grade tea.

I'll play around with it a bit more, see what it'll do. Might make a suitable work-drinking tea with a few extra grams...

One thousand grams of pu...good googly moogly. I don't think the fiance would approve. Or maybe she would. Only one way to find out...

Also, I am sending Draper a sample of this, since it took me forever to get the stuff from the teaswap out, so maybe he can chime in.

I have a couple of those 1000 gram cakes from Hai Wan tea factory. I also have a Bada brick from the Menghai Tea factory at 1000 grams also. I have one of the cakes you got also. Not too bad for an every day drink.
