Jay, if you are in Hong Kong. Sin Fok (Zen Tea) in Kowloon City would be a much better place to get tea than internet sites.

I started to give up on western facing vendors and get it from couple of taobao vendors with an actual store in GD.

I will save up a tea fund to spend in tea when I next go to HK to see my folks.

Toby,

For new cakes, I'm much better off buying from China. Much larger assortment and prices online than from local stores! This particular site is supposedly cheaper than Taobao!

Also, you can taste the tea before you buy in a shop: -)

True, tasting in a shop is always a plus, but for 50% more money I'll take a gamble. ;) I can always offload a HK home-aged Menghai cake down the line if need be!

Out of curiosity (and since I know a lot of people here bought both teas), how do you feel about the 7542 (806) and 8582 (806) from tuochatea, respectively?

Having gone through about half a cake of each I must say I find the 8582 significantly better, whereas I find the 7542 rather flat/muted/one-dimensional. I don't think it's the terrible Norwegian storage conditions (they've been stored together all along) since it's been less than a year since I received them. That being said it's the only 7542 I've ever tried. In any case it would be interesting to hear how other members have experienced these teas.

I tried both teas (7542 (806) and 8582 (806)) and my impressions were reversed from yours. The 7542 significantly better, whereas I find the 8582 rather flat/muted/one-dimensional. I tried them a few times though. Maybe I need to try them again. Also the price for the 7542 was $10 more compared to the 8582. Perhaps the manufacturer or the seller has made its assessment and set the appropriate price?

That's interesting!

I think the 7542 is generally priced a bit higher, as it is a recipe believed to "age a bit better", but I may be wrong here.
