Any good cakes from '13/'14?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Any good cakes from '13/'14?

by jayinhk » Sep 14th, '14, 10:10

Would like to pick up some new cakes for aging if there's anything good and reasonably priced out. Anyone have any suggestions for newer cakes, or is it all either overpriced or junk?

Personal preferences are very different from person to person. What I consider high quality may not be the same for you and vice versa.
Therefore, I suggest to try some samples from different sellers and evaluate by yourself.

Regards.

Good cakes? Plenty. Reasonably priced? A budget would help...

Let's say 300 Rmb tops. Are any of the organic cakes good?

from Taobao. "normal" ones are under 200RMB and ironcake around 250RMB

Since you're in HK Jay, you should probably fish in the local market (where things are inaccessible to most people posting on this forum) instead of asking here :)

Marshal, true, but what's really inaccessible as far as new cakes go now? :) lots of members from China here, or who buy from China, many of whom know more about pu erh than I do! :D

Pretty good for the price. Not ready to drink now though.
The shop that ship overseas only have the "normal" cake and tuos. I heard they are not as good as the iron cake but tuo is only 30ish rmb

I put in the chinese words of this cake/tuo. Don't want to take responsibility of recommanding vendors.

Curious about the Dayi in the lower left of this photo. Would you mind sharing the year and name?

2003 batch312 purple Dayi 7542
(The tea cakes/brick on the table are all from a HK private seller, not Taobao.)

Also, some samples I tried from Yunnan Sourcing that are affordable as new tea:

2009 Mangfei (under $30)
2003 Tai Lian Yiwu brick ($55)
2012 Impression ($20ish)
