You have absolutely nothing to fear from me! Your supplies of pu erh are safe!

I just brewed my very first sampling of pu erh (Adagio Pu Erh Dante) and it was, um, quite an experience. With an aroma redolent of a swamp bottom and a liquor that was red to the point of being almost scarlet, I barely got the cup to my lips.

**gulp**

ACK!! Bleh. No thank you. My sainted husband (a lapsong souchong fan) actually drank a cup of it and pronounced it okay. (High praise from a Norwegian.) He said that he would actually drink it again. Okay. Whatever. Just brew it when I'm not home and don't use my teapot!! :P

not all pu is the same, some are swampy as you say, some are old-book dusty, some are woody, some taste like yunnan black tea, and some i havent had any others, but i plan on some pu tasting soon

Well, I followed the "directions" on the Adagio label which says "212 (degrees), 5 min". You're telling me that five minutes might be too long?

I'd say, 5 minutes would make it taste like SH*T. Try 2-3 minutes. Also, in the opinion of many, sheng (raw) pu erh tastes much better than shu (cooked) pu erh.

Pu-erh wants to be gongfu'd. Which means lots of leaf, little water, short infusions, many infusions. Dante is not a good representative of pu-erh! We're organizing a tasting of some mediocre stuff, which you might enjoy more. Before you give up on pu-erh, try out a sheng pu-erh. mmmmmmm swamp. :D

Well! So much for reading directions. I'll let my DH know that he should steep the tea for about half the time and maybe we'll look into trying other types of pu.

Thanks for the guidance!
