Feedback on the Adagio Pu Erhs...

I've never tried any Pu Erh at all but decided in my last order to get a sample of one of the Adagio ones just to get an idea what Pu Erh is about.

Doing a search here hasn't really brought up much on the two Adagio ones. Can somebody fill me in if they've tried them?

Pu-erh is grouped into two categories: sheng, and shu. Sheng starts out a lot like a green tea, then ferments slowly over the years, becoming quite a treat. Shu goes through a quick-fermentation process that attempts to make the tea resemble an aged sheng. Tasters can tell the difference, but lots of people drink shu anyways because they don't have 30 years to wait for good tea. :D

Adagio's two pu-erhs are both shu. I found them both to have gone through quite a fermenting process, resulting in them both being "strong," in the shu sense. I actually prefer the more lightly fermented shus. If you find yourself intrigued, try some sheng. Young sheng did nothing but increase my affection for good shu.

Received my order and gave it a shot. Very interesting. The color and aroma out of the tin were nothing remarkable but the brewed tea was right up my alley. Dark, earthy, barnyard smells and a very nice, "no bite" flavor. This is something I can get hooked on pretty easily, I think...

Now I gotta go find some websites and read up on it. :wink: Glad I took the chance.

Cool that you liked it! Check out the stickies in the pu-erh forum -- there's an interesting tasting session going on right now with lots of us pu-erh newbies.. puerhshop.com has made available some affordable sampler sets of all kinds of pu-erh. Welcome to the dark, inviting pu-world...... :)

Another one hooked! The best thing about cooked (or shu) puerh is that thing guys all love: you can gross people out when you tell them about it.

The "Taste of Mellow" (2nd sticky) thread in the Puerh forum is probably the first for you to have a look at.
