2008 Ming Qian Spring Tips
Producer: Shuangjing Mengku
Type: Raw

I brewed this with 5g in a porcelain gaiwan as to get an unbiased brew.
Keep the infusions quick and you won't get the bitterness Scott mentions in the first infusion. Second infusion could be called bitter, but I am certainly not turned off by it. I feel very energized on my way out for a bike ride. This is definitely a good "drink now" at an attractive price for folks who love green sheng.

i just had some of this guy :

2008 Mengku Mu Ye Chun "Old Tree Green Cake"

400 grams, the cake was surprisingly very easily pried apart. priced at around 15 usd, it's a sleeper hit. great tasting tea, your mouth has a general sweet feel to it. i used around 4 grams, flash rinsed 2x for 5 secs each, first infusion of 20 secs, the brew had a very lightish yellow colour to it, the taste was not bitter at all, no cloudiness either. leaves are very green looking inside the pot. i brewed this bruce lee style. after a few brews, my mouth still tingles with the tea's aftertaste. i know a few of us has this or know this cake already but for the others, go get some. apparently this is a different blend than the 2007 version.

props to the mengku shuangjiang massive out there in yunnan province!!

I too have tried that from the box pass. It was very good indeed for the price, my only complaint however was how light in taste it was, but other than that it was great. I must highly recommend the Menghai 8582 blend for 2008, it is an absolutely amazing cake for the price, excellent drink now, no bitterness, smooth and balanced, just a great tea. I am planning on purchasing a few soon.

I might have to pick up a couple of the 8582's. For the price, it would be really hard to be disappointed.

I like this tea. I bought a cake based on the kind sample Trioxin sent me, but the passion you and Trioxin have for it tends to confirm my belief that some among us are supertasters. For me this is a very light and enjoyable tea, with the emphasis on light.

Probably comes from my love of Pino Noir. Not that I wouldn't trade up for a fine full bodied Bordeaux.

I broke a little off this YSLLC production and brewed it a bit strong: 6 gr to 120 ml. It was very fruity and delicious. Not sure it tastes like puerh, but I liked it a lot.

I've been wanting to try that one. So you'd recommend a purchase?

I guess so. Like I say, it is very unlike any puerh I have had previously, but I did like it quite a bit. Can't imagine what it would age like.

i also have this. i have not tried this yet. how hard or easy was it to flake off a piece? i mainly go this because i am the kind of pu drinker who wants the leftfield pu. i am like that guy who ordered that brick from mongolia. i am now itching to try this brick.

i know what you mean. this brick is wrapped from top to bottom but not side to side, so you just hacked away at it from the side entrance.

I too just had a sample from the box of that brick last week. As Salsero mentioned it really does not taste like pu. My brew was very light in flavor with some fruitiness to it. From what I have read about aging, this one should not be a good aging candidate. Overall enjoyable but personally for the price, I would say no, or at least sample it first.

Yo, if you are on the box pass thingee, you should get to try the supposedly 03 version. A chunk is now with Dizz and I am sure you will hear from him about it soon.
