Everything you know is wrong ...

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

i think i found something some time ago about plasma levels...i didnt save it...
i think it wasnt that much that was absorbed...
... i'll try to find it again.

edit: ok found something else(but requires purchase), a sort of meta-analysis of multiple types of flavonoids,

tea flavonoids all have very poor absorbtion & bioavailability in humans

the absolute bioavailability (in the rat) was 1-3% (low) for high doses of administered ECG.

also says that the ORAL bioavailability of tea flavonoids in humans is due to poor transport from intestine and very efficient elimination by conjugation (= "metabolized" in the liver very quick, before it reaches systemic circulation)

Absorption and metabolism of flavonoids
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, Volume 36, Issue 7, 1 April 2004, Pages 829-837

found something else, which mentions for most flavonoids that reach blood, their half life is 1-2h = it goes out quick unless you keep drinking tea :D (but then you get alot of water with it, so....)

My motto:

moderation causes cancer.

It's as simple as this- if tea is no good for you, you might as well pack it in, because almost anything else you consume will be worse.

Out of all the things I've put into my system over the years (some of them truly ghastly) tea has to rank as the most innocuous, if not salutary.

hehehe, there's an article on pu-erh and flavonoid contents and "effect" on cholesterol

they say

compared to lovastatin(inhibits synthesis of cholesterol in the liver) which has effect of 100, catechins have an effect of 0.1 to 0.65(ECGC) and 0.69(GCG)

I like the way you think Tony :)
Seriously though, tea is like the second most popular drink in the world next to water and if it was really that bad for you, wouldnt there be major health problems resulting from the thousands of years of use?

Everything kills you, Its just how and when. some things will quicken this like smoking, Some are slow like lead poisoning maybe from teaware (I think thats a joke  ) and then theres walking. All that stress on your body. I believe you do what you love and you pay get the results, end of story. Even if they said tea was bad for me I would still drink it because I love it.
