its too pretty to drink. i dont think i could break off that first piece. it also makes you wonder if it is inferior quality hence the need to pretty it up.

I have seen this beeng some time ago. I am always quite leary however of gimicky pu-erhs. It just begs the question, "are they trying to put lipstick on a pig"?

It seems very hard to flake such a cake to me. The braiding has bonded the individual leaf even more then compression, I imagine that the flaked tea would be very broken. Perhaps perfect for aging, when the whole thing has shrunk and all the bitterness has dissipated, who cares about broken leafs then.

I never had one of those pretty, flowering tea balls that was worth a darn, so my initial guess would be "gimmick".
