New Pumidor

Picked this up today with the intent of using it to store my cakes. Still needs to be cleaned up, but I'm posting pictures anyways. It does have a light wood smell to it, but hey,... its wood. I suppose you'll have that. Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of any reason why I shouldn't use it to store my cakes?

Here's a pick with a full sized cake inside it. The suckers huge.

Ahhh. Very cool!

My only suggestion is to wipe it down, maybe with an odor-free cleanser, before you use it.

I'm actually a bit envious now... I want my own spacious, dark wood pumidor!

Found it (and a matching side table) for a whole $100 off craigslist. I'm definitely going to clean it good before my cakes go in.

Looks fantastic, Trioxin. A perfect size - and you could proudly display your teaware on that bottom shelf. Will look forward to the pictures of the cleaned and inhabited pumidor!

Very cool. I imagine that as time passed the wood will begin to smell like the pu and not the other way around.

Very cool! Now I'm on the lookout for something the woodworker didn't have in mind for Pu.

In the meantime, do you folks think simply storing it in a metal file cabinet would be okay?

Yes, it would work but not unless you keep a humidity pad in it, otherwise you could just sit everything on a closet shelf. I'm having rain right now so my humidity is 70%, yay!!!!!!!! Oh and by the way, the wood smell will eventually decrease, but as your piece had a finish on it, IDK.

Just a little update on the pumidor. Got it cleaned up (still need to touch up the finish) and it seems to be holding the humidity rather nicely. Time to introduce the cakes.

Congrats! That's a beautiful piece and seems well suited for the task. Not to mention a great conversation piece!
