2011 Xiaguan Golden Mark Raw - Probably one of the most unique xiaguan pu I have every tried and the most expensive new release Xiaguan I have ever bought. There is a story behind this pu, which was told by senior/seller.

In year 2006, a lady approached Dayi and specially compressed a batch of tea which is the Golden Color Yun Xiang Raw.

Image

This year the lady had some raw material of 6 years old and she went to Dayi seeking to compress but they refused to make it. So she went to Xiaguan and compressed it.

The taste? Nothing like Xiaguan usual smoky or flowerish taste at all. This taste exactly like a Dayi tea. It has the Dayi signature taste. If the wrapper is not Xiaguan, people would never have guessed. The tea taste like about 6 to 8 years of age but still strong and kicking. It is good from the 1st brew to the 15th brew. Taste wise reminds me of the 5 sons box set (wu zi deng ke).

Here are the photos to this special Xiaguan tea. It even comes with a cert+lab test in the carton box. I am not sure it says, but this is first time I see such lab result coming from Xiaguan.

If this is branded as Dayi for this year tea... I would put this in top 3 of my y2011 preferred Dayi tea. As this is Xiaguan y2011, this is definitely my number 1 preferred Xiaguan. My senior said he has tasted so many young and old Xiaguan and he has never come across such taste in Xiaguan tea.

Very interesting, thanks, Chua! I saw the Meng Song come up recently over at Red Lantern for $20 (plus shipping)... I think I'll pass. :)

Also very interesting on the Dayi-to-Xiaguan switch for the gold mark tea... I got around to trying the 2006 Dayi version last week (finally made it through all of the samples!), and it was pretty good.

My seniors were saying the Meng Song is going to be good for future. I am going to buy some for future/collection when it arrives, but if you intend to buy it for drink now... you can pass

The Dayi-to-Xiaguan went out of stock quickly. The seller ordered 6 cartons and all sold out b4 it leaves china. Only 1 month from first order, price for next round of order has increased by 10% from china cause high demand and less supply.

If it's anything like the Mengsong Peacock from '05, yeah, it's gonna be good...

2011 Dayi Fang Cha raw - Price slightly cheaper than Gold Dayi (when new) if were to measure the cost of same weight. This is a potent tea. It is strong from 1st brew. By 3rd brew I barely can drink it already. It has the Gold Dayi character. Good aroma. Not bitter. Not astringency. Tea leaves looks young but the colour of tea looks older. A good tea to keep aside and see how it ages. Not really for drinking now tea yet.

Chensheng Tian Cha (Heaven Tea). 2011 Very smooth, orchid flowery, good mouth feel and little astringency. Goes to the head feeling. Taste excellent after many infusions.
Had a drinking binge tonight of all the raw teas from Chensheng; Yiwu, Bulang, Lao Ban Zhang. This one stands out as spectacular blend of 1st pick, 1st grade raw mountain tea leaves and larger leaves to allow it to infuse many times with the same level of consistency.

This shop stands out for having superior customer service, the gentlemen took much time to explain the teas and paid for our dinner and even arranged to drive us back to the hotel....and I have not even bought anything from him.

Sounds like a fantastic evening. Is Chensheng a large (or small) tea company, or a store that ordered their own private pressings of these teas?

While I could be falling prey to the fact that so many tea shop names are similar, I do believe that's the ChenShengHao that's big on LBZ and tried to buy out the area.

2005 Changtai Yiwu, intriguing aroma and interesting palate... Somehow this comes across as more earth and leather than most other puerhs I am used to having. But its decently sweet.

Yes it is Chensheng Hao, and they are big on LBZ's, but all their teas are mainly raw high mountain/arbor variety. Pricing is higher than the rest but then again, the proof is in the drink. New company, oldest production is probably 2006.

The pricing seems odd. There are all sorts of prices from 1000 yuan, 2000, 5000, 10000 yuan. Some people do use 9999 as a way to signal sold out, sometimes...

I cannot conceive the cake being worth $1500.

2009 Lao Ban Zhang loose sheng mao cha from Norbu, a lovely tea that I'm trying to drink sparingly to keep the enjoyment going. This is the first time in a month or two, and every time I come back to it I fall in love all over again.

No one would pay this price for a 300gm cake.
The description of the tabao link:

【价 格】礼品赠送,不出售
Google translate: [Price] a gift, not for sale

Buy 6 cakes of the series, and you will get one of this cake for free, the total cost of the 6 cakes (300gm each) is less than RMB9,999
