April of this year - 2001 7542 from Shah82. I recall that one distinctly, because it tasted like suckin' on a cigarette. (I know some love that tobacco flavor to it, but being as I smoked, that taste/smell makes me nauseous now)

I tried this tea last week. The dry-storage was very evident to me and I didn't find this tea overly interesting. I plan on brewing the rest of my sample at some point in the future though. Whether it is worth it or not, I cannot comment ... I don't have a deep enough knowledge on the current market price for dry-stored semi-aged Dayi teas.
I just took a look at my notes and wrote down the same 'dry storage' sorts of comments. It was my impression (from the description) that this tea was more of a limited production, which may be why it carries a higher price than other dayi beengs of that year...

Thanks for your comments tst and Drax.I wanted someone else's impression about this one. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

The tea is not terribly bad, but for the price there are way better teas like the 2005 Banzhang Chawang from Chen Zhi Tong (Hope I wrote it correctly :D). It was available in Houde some time ago for $175.
Or even some of Scott's teas, IMHO for much less. The way I see it we are paying the brand and the years of storage here. Perhaps if the tea was stored in a place like HK it could've been better, my experience is limited to really tell how this tea would've been in such case. Perhaps more mellow, but better, honestly don't know.

I don't drink a "lot" of pu but when the winter months come along my body seems to really feel it. lately I have been really enjoying this Zipin Hao, I picked it up at my local tea shop, Mad Monk Tea.

Astringency - very slight one of the nice things for me about this tea is it seems even mellower than it's age would suggest
Smoke - ever so slight hint of smoke in the dry cake doesn't really transfer to the cup though
Dryness- not really an issue
Mouthfeel - medium to medium light, with a great smooth and slippery texture, slides down the throat really nicely.
Hui gan - mild but noticeable.
Flavor - this cake had a nice flavor with mild sweet notes, dry hay and rained on rained on straw. this cake has some very autumn like notes for me.
chaqi- nice, a pleasant uprising in the base of the skull and a warmth that spreads through the chest
Overall value - quite good
Purchase again - yes

2007 Yi Ban Xin Xiang Gao Shan Shu
this is a malty, sweet and earthy cake that was selected by Seven cups, I really enjoy this shucha a lot. picking standard is on the larger end around 5 to 7 average.

Today pre lunch is late 90's semi ripe (?) border ye shen cha (wild tree) at a tea shop in KL. Old tea, slight bitter, not sweet and greenish but strong hui gan at the first infusion, but the greenish mellows out in later infusions to a palatable tea flavour, and lingering in the inner throat much later.

Post lunch was a 2006 Taetea raw high mountain. It was light red already, but still rough at the edges but had sweet chen xiang.

Last was an 80's Taetea ripe cha quat (tea sticks) - brewed very black and had tons of cha qi. Golden sweet and long hui gan.
Apparently tea sticks was meant to be fed to animals in the old days - how true is this?

Some very wet stored HK sheng: at least 10 yrs on it, but probably more. Almost like a shu because of the storage! Interestingly I taste more origin character and less storage after trying it in my Yixing. Wet stored pu in porcelain is a waste of tea IMO!

I am having some 2007 menghai 7262. This is most likely my favorite shu recipe from menghai. Most of you probably know it so I wont bother with long descriptives. This cake was sourced from Yunnan sourcing.

Just got this cute little 2012 "Dragon of Jing Mai" from YS. I'll give it a go later today, then tuck it away to see how it ages. For $5, why not?

Today I decided to try one of the fairly inexpensive menghai's I purchased a while back, the 2008 Menghai Classic raw.
Astringency - In the first 10 steeps there was none for under 20 second steeps, some at 20-30, and after 30 seconds it became to astringent for my taste
Smoke - Very little if any
Dryness-(mouth) - Some on the tongue
Mouthfeel - Thin but smooth
Hui gan - Light
Flavor - Good green flavor but with some nice darker notes but a little lighter than what I would have liked
Overall value - good
Purchase again - maybe

I don't know if this goes here but I couldn't find a "what pu are you drinking now" thread like the other subforums have, so sorry in advance!!

Tonight I chose to chill out with the aid of a 2006 LCGC "003" Jing Mai Mountain raw pu.
Probably not very nice compared to what the connoisseurs amongst all of you drink but I'm still a pu beginner, and I thought this was very nice! :)

I noticed the taste was a bit.. um.. coppery? (is this normal?) but I actually didn't mind that after a few sips :)
The aroma was gorgeous... And the aftertaste that I have lingering as I type this is just fantastic! ALMOST better than the tea itself!

Might be your water - try distilled water which is also sold as purified water, or you drank it too hot - I sometimes have a coppery side taste if I didn't let the tea cool down a bit.

Ahh I see! Usually I use bottled spring water, but I stopped using it since it was making oolongs taste a bit flat, and switched to filtered tap.. I'll try purified water for pu! Thank you!! :D

Had some 2006 Mengku * Big Snow Mountain * Wild Raw Pu-erh from YS today.

Nice thick and bold taste with very little bitterness. Great sheng for it's age, lasts a bit longer than similar aged shengs too and a nice sweet finish.

Astringency - some
Smoke - some
Dryness-(mouth) - some
Mouthfeel - heavy
Hui gan - some
Flavor - excellent
Overall value - excellent
Purchase again - absolutley
