Hrm, well 30-45 seconds is pretty long for a second infusion of a shu pu... it may have been a bit overkill. How much leaf did you use in how much water?
Although, the sour quality is definitely not a good sign... if it borders on sweaty gym socks, there might not be any remedy for that problem...

Well, I tried the 30-ish seconds because the previous brew really didn't have much tea flavor, only funk flavor.
I may have pushed it a bit but I wanted to see if there really was any tea flavor. The third infusion though was shorter and was just pure bitter.
Sweaty gym socks... That is an interesting way to describe it but I could see where that might apply... perhaps that is what that other oh-so-elusive flavor I couldn't put my finger on was. I just thought of it as just some sort of funk.

I should add, this looks like a gongting or first grade tea. Also looks rather lightly fermented.
Those guys do not lose woi dui all that easily, and they are definitely finicky brewers. You should expect the flavor to be pretty light actually, and be a bit more complex than shu usually is. Try it again, and brew according to the notion that light taste is the norm. If that busts, then put it away and forget about it for a few years...Certainly not buy any more, of course...

Did you get to smell it at least??

1 - 2006 Dayi Chen Yun Beeng Raw
2 - 2006 Dayi Hao Yun Beeng Raw
3 - 2006 Dayi Shan Yun Beeng Raw
4 - 2006 Dayi Mi Yun Beeng Raw
5 - 2006 Dayi Yan Yun Beeng Raw
This 5 pieces set is indeed good tea. Out of the 5 pieces, only Hao Yun is a disappointment, the 4 others were good.
This 5 beengs are very hard. Tightly compressed. Very hard to break. A lot of bits and dust from the outcome. The leaves were quite chopped and small too.
If you are going to drink this at a go, it would be ideal to taste this in sequence. From weakest to strongest.
Hao Yun -> Shan Yun -> Mi Yun -> Yan Yun -> Chen Yun.
Overall, a good set to buy and keep. It is above the usual Dayi common recipe taste.

Finished up with a 2010 Douji Blue, which was quite nice... a shame there were only samples left.
I also got to start on the 2006 Dayi Hao Yun that auhckw mentioned. I thought I'd start at "the bottom..."
I was surprised with this one, since I was expecting something terrible... of course, I've been brewing it pretty strongly (6g in 4oz gaiwan and 15s infusions for first three). But it's reminded me of a sweet black tea mixed with a young sheng that grows in strength. An interesting mix. If this was the bottom, then I am definitely looking forward to the rest...!

The tea is not terrible, just that it doesn't stand out among the 5. The taste only lasted a while and disappeared. We brew it using same gram and brewing parameters, flash rinse once. Then start with 5 seconds and add on more seconds accordingly. Hao Yun's first 5 seconds tea colour is very light. Like chinese green tea. Among the 5, we noticed Hao Yun leaves seems to be the youngest also.
We probably tasted Hao Yun wrong cause if it is weakest, we should have not tasted Chen Yun (strongest) before it. Chen Yun's camphor aftertaste lasted quite long.
Looking fwd to hear your review... try to rest in between the infusions and take your time. We were doing the 5 tea marathon under 3 hours so didn't squeeze the max potential of it. I will try to brew this again at home without rush...
