Wrote to Scott at YSLLC for some suggestions of Pu-erhs to round out my meager collections. Well he was not shy. He suggested these:

2008 Yuan Nian "Blue Mark Iron Cake" Raw Pu-erh tea

2008 Menghai "Da Yi Jia Ji Tuo" Raw Pu-erh tea 500g bag

2006 Jinuo Shan * You Le Wild Arbor Pu-erh tea * 400g

2006 Guoyan "Menghai Early Spring" Raw Pu-erh tea 200g

2008 Haiwan Tea Factory * 9948 Blended Raw Pu-erh tea

2008 Menghai "Classic" Premium Raw tea cake * 357g

2008 Guoyan "Queen of Yi Wu" Premium Raw Pu-erh tea

Nan Jian Tulin "902" Certified Organic Raw Pu-erh tea

2008 Hai Lang Hao * Jing Mai Mountain Pu-erh tea * 250g

2008 Xiaguan FT "Nan Zhao Yu" Raw Pu-erh tea cake 400g

2008 Xiaguan FT "Nan Zhao Round Cake" Pu-erh Tea * 454g

2008 Yong Pin Hao * Stone-Pressed Yi Wu Wild Arbor tea

2007 Mengku * Mu Ye Chun * 001 * Raw Tea Cake of Yongde

2008 Menghai "Springtime Water" Raw Pu-erh tea * 500g

2008 * Wild Tree Raw Pu-erh tea brick of Dehong * 500g

2008 Yong De * Big Snow Mountain Wild Arbor tea * 500g

2007 * Guoyan * Yi Wu Zheng Shan Wild Arbor * 380 grams

I was able to find reviews here of a few of these. The Menghai "Classic" and the Gyuyan "Queen of Yi Wu" seem like keepers. Any others jump out at you guys? Looking to purchase four or five additional cakes.

Thanks

David

Most here would agree that you can't really go wrong with the Menghai, Xiaguan (especially the FT), and Mengku productions. I havent tried that particular Yuan Nian cake, he probably recommends it for its tight compression, but i would also consider the Yuan Nian #4. I kind of feel like i'm campaigning for this cake a bit but I really enjoy the flavor it has and the price on it is unbeatable.

Thanks and I have been pretty excited about Hai Lang Hao as well. Mengku factory has a lot of fans and produces distinctively elegant cakes, the Mu Ye Chun being one I especially liked.

If you want a real collection piece, that will only increase in value : 2007 Xi-Zhi Hao * Yuan Shi Lin Wild Arbor Pu-erh * 400g, this one you can trust I read about it from diffrent sources.

I would stock up on MengHai and Guoyan. You would probably want to stay away from most recent offernings from XiaGuan. They really have been crappy. Well, atleast the '06s and '07s were.

It depends, are you looking for stuff to store, or to drink now? sheng or shu? What's your budget?

As said before Menghai, Guoyan and Mengku will all give you good results for the price.

I agree with most everyone else's opinions. Menghai, Xiaguan (08, or 05 and before offerings, especially FT commissions), and I'm also convinced that Hai Lang Hao is absolutely incapable of releasing a bad tea.

Agreed on Menghai, Xiaguan, and Hai Lang Hao. I've not been disappointed thus far.

Thank you all. TeaChat comes through. Will place my order.

Going to ask this in another thread but where can I get a copy of Art of Tea. Referred to so often as the 'bible'.

Thanks

The Art of Tea "megazines" are great. I have the 1st and 2nd and just finished them up so I am going to get 2 more for Christmas. If you like puerh and oolong you should love these. Heres the link for them.
