I use a spreadsheet in Google Docs. I've also been trying to save pictures of vendor photos and name the files after the catalog # in the spreadsheet, so I can find a picture of the thing later on.
I imagine someone may have written a web-based application that's a generic app for keeping track of one's collection(s) (which would allow you to keep information and pictures about your hobby / collection). I could see such a tool being very useful, but I wouldn't even know what to search for on Freshmeat (I think I tried the obvious ones).
As far as non-pu'er tea stuff, I usually just label the canister or bag with the name, place and date of origin if known, date I acquired it and the source.

Pu'er wrapers
Many of the wrapper now have enough english characters on them and most have dates. I keep the wrapper with the tea after I start to drink it. I often break the tea up into old tea canisters, but i keep the wrapper with them.
