the smell of pu...

by odarwin » Feb 4th, '09, 00:07

hi guys,

i though i would get your experiences on pu erh with respect to how it smells in different humidity levels...

anyone who likes to share please feel free to add...

my level at home ranges from 50% to 85%
50% being a sunny cool day, and 85% for consecutive days with rain.
average is 70-75%
i live in manila, philippines...

50%-60% - not much smell, i sense a "sleeping" cake in this humidity level
60%-65% - smell gets a bit active
66%-75% - best smell of all, very fragrant and active cake
75%-80% - strong smell but looses a bit of fragrance
85%- upwards - not much smell

Hey Odawrin,

Great analysis. I do notice that my closet smells the best when it is in the "accepted" humidity range :D

Right now my closet is at a nasty low of 35%, very little smell. However when summer comes along and it get up into the 70's% a wonderful smell appears.

Hmmm... I can imagine what you may be talking about but have not experienced it. I currently have about 23 tongs in the back room and the smell is heavenly even with the low humidity of winter.
