Hello people! I have been reading many posts on this forum for the last few days, and I think I am in the right place. I am a beginner, but have some awareness of whats out there. I am looking for some help in getting started.

I am looking for recommendations around pu-ehr and oolong. Specifically utensils, water, cups the whole shabang.

Also if you had one Shincha to buy, what would it be right now, or if there is a place with a good sampler?

For oolong and puerh, some specialists will talk about those teas better than I could do.

For shincha, I don't think that samplers are available.
You have a post exclusively about 2008 shincha here.

If I had to choose only one shincha, it would be Uji Kirameki, but one shincha isn't enough!

Yes, I have been reading the Shincha thread. How about 50 Gram tins? I am afraid that if I open the 100 gram tin it will take me too long to use.

What is it that you like about that one?

Well, it is a light steamed shincha with a grassy taste, which is the kind of sencha I like best.

The stores where I order sencha don't offer 50gr packages, so I go to 100gr packages.

Den of Den's Tea offers 2 OZ packages of shincha. I have not tried his shincha personally, but I bought many of his other teas and loved them all. He sells top quality stuff and is well loved by tea snobs... er... connoisseurs here.

Quite expensive. For the same amount of money, you can get 100 gr from Japanese sellers.

There's always the difference in shipping to consider though. Den's has rather local / cheap / free shipping for us US peeps. Japanese sellers sometimes have free shipping some don't. Like I haven't ordered from Ippodo due to the ludicrously high shipping rates. And Den's has that lovely 3 dollar sampler which gets refunded after your first purchase

See, I must have tacitly assumed that "green tea kit" would involve teawares. To me, a sampler would be a "green tea sampler". {pouts}

Anyway, Jeremy, if you do buy from Den's, that's where you'll find the sampler!

Guess what - I e-mailed Den's first thing after posting this message, and later today they got back to me to say that since they hadn't sent out the shipment yet, they could and would add the sampler to my order.
