New to Tea!

by New2T » Jan 28th, '09, 19:52

I found this site doing a search on Teavana to see if I could get some tips on similar teas for less money. I read the LONG account of one unhappy employee. Prior to buying loose tea from teavana I had only had Republic of Tea loose tea many years ago. I have enjoyed trying the teas and I LOVE the teapots that I have purchased from Teavana but I can see some of the sales techniques and overblown health benefit info. I do not like a hard sell and I love a great value. There are a couple teas that I really am enjoying, maybe I have a very unsophisticated palate for tea thus far.

Does anyone know what would be similar to the Zingiber Ginger Coconut that I could purchase online or for less? I really like it iced. I have found that I have purchased mostly Rooibos. I like more of a flavor. I also really like the Matevana Chai mix, Honeybush Vanilla, Bangkok Lemongrass. Are those pretty much exclusive to Teavana???

I have to say that right now even though it is expensive and the sales techniques are rather transparent I really have enjoyed the teas.

Funny enough I was starting to consider working there part time just to get a discount on the tea!!! After talking to an employee and reading some of the posts on here I know I would NOT enjoy that kind of environment. (Sales quotas, unethical practices at best, etc.)

Hi New2T and welcome to TeaChat. There is life after Teavana. Many start their TeaJourneys through Teavana or Republic of Tea (I started with RoT).

Enjoy the TeaJourney. I hope you can stop by TeaDay and share what is in your cup.

Welcome, New2T!
If you take a look at Adagio's website, they have a wide variety of teas and you can get sample sizes of all of them. It's a great way to try different teas and not spend a huge amount of money.

hajimemashite! ;D

While i haven't tried out the teas that you've listed, you might want to check out a sample of Adagio's Honeybush Vanilla to compare it to teavana's. There's also a variety of mixed teas that have been made by adagio customers and you can make your own!

hope to see you in teaday and around the site :3
