Hello

by Naijomii » Feb 4th, '09, 04:59

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself a bit.

I was raised mostly by my grandparents and needless to say was raised on red rose tea. My grandmother however was very 'proper' in how it was to be prepared and drank and used to have little tea parties with me as a child. The little spoons were never to be heard touching the china cup and sugar cubes were only to be picked up using the tongs. I smile just thinking about the memories of it with her even if it was only a bagged , store bought tea she always made it seem so very special to me.

Once out on my own I then tried the flavored teas in bags from the grocery stores and even some from tea shops in time. I thought I knew a bit about types, temperatures and steeping. I even moved up to loose teas and tea balls, what more could there be I thought.

It was years later my father remarried and while visiting him and my step mother she served me a cup of Xi Hu Long Jing they had brought back from their honeymoon in China with her family. I thought I had died and gone to heaven so to say, it was then I realized how little I really know about tea and how much I still have to learn about it. The best part however is that my daughter shares my love of tea as well so it makes for a nice family time together now as it did with my grandmother when I was just a child.

I look forward to learning more from those of you here as well as shareing what little I know as I can.

Welcome Naijomii.
Thank you for sharing your story of teatime with your Grandmother. It truly made me smile and brought back some memories of my own, of tea with my teenie tiny, little Irish Grandmother. :D
