Oh look. Another new person.

by pasttimes » Feb 25th, '09, 07:08

Hello all! Having lurked around here for a while, I figured it was about time to get this introduction business out of the way.

I’ve been drinking tea for the past 6 years, but have only just recently been bitten by the tea bug. (Despite what it sounds like, “the tea bug” is a greater enemy of my bank account than of camellia sinensis.) The only reason I can give as to why it took me so long to get hooked is that I mainly drank bagged tea before...and, well, it was just nothing to get excited about.

Anyway, I’m definitely still in first discovery phase and loving every minute of it. I’ve been sampling different teas from different vendors, and trying various brewing techniques. Right now, I’m working my way through some Adagio oolong samples and...I think I might very well be in love. Also, I got my first kyusu last week and have started to experiment with sencha.

Well, time to wrap this up. I've learned a great deal already from reading this board and I look forward to learning even more. Thanks!

Well, I didn’t want to waste any good stuff right off the bat, so I ended up with some cheap, non-descript sencha for practice. It was absolutely awful the first time, but I’ve gotten a couple pretty good brews since. Meanwhile, my Den’s starter kit came in yesterday and there’s a sample of sencha in there that I’m looking forward to trying this afternoon. :D

Ohhh, Den's! Did you get to try it yet, pastimes? Let us know how you make out when you do. Maybe you could post in TeaDay and tell us all about it
