Enjoying some of the outstanding Competition Grade TGY of Gande from Yunnan Sourcing. It is a 'wow' treat. The fall TGY I enjoyed yesterday is very good, but this pushes all thought of other teas out of one's mind. Floral, sweet, rich, deep. Marvelous. Too expensive for everyday, but a great treat.

A rare midday treat: 90 Zhi Lan Xiang Dan Cong from Zhong Ping Village (via Tea Habitat). It is more than holding its own with beans with coriander walnut sauce over buckwheat, singing out floral and sweet brilliantly, brewed up in my tiny ultra-cheapo yixing that waits patiently at work for its chance to to shine. Equally tiny Petr Novak translucent blue glazed cup completes a perfect trifecta of tea happiness.

Aged Thai oolong #12. It has darkened and tastes like a good aged oolong should; just a little more bitter and it still has some sweetness from when it was green. Surprisingly pleasant drinking!

This is tea my dad bought me in Bangkok before he passed on...I don't drink it often.

Cheap imported chinese domestic market TGY from the local Asian mart in Hornby.

250gm for $5.80 cheap, basic, not the best, but drinkable.

An everyday slurp to keep hydrated rather than something to sit and savour.

Another marvelous session with competition grade TGY from Yunnan Sourcing, this time splurged on one whole packet for my little Yi Yong Cheol pot, which is absolutely crammed with the wetted leaves. Lots and lots of infusions, rich and sweet.

South of Taipei in the mountains, surrounded by tea terraces. Noticed a girl looking my way at the terminal before I took the bus up here. We got talking a little after the bus driver told me the tea museum here was closed for renovation. She barely spoke any English, but after I said I was looking to buy tea, she took me to the local agricultural society and I got to try some of the local baozhong. Her mother was affiliated with the association and I got to meet her too. The baozhong was really good stuff.

I had some of the baozhong I bought in Taipei on me, and I showed it to the ladies at the store. She pulled a leaf out and popped it in her mouth. I did the same and chewed and they were like oh no! You're supposed to spit it out! I gulped it down with a swig of water. Lol

The top grade was still processing, but they had a bag to sample. They didn't have any for sale, but sInce I wanted the good stuff, she sold me some (150g) of the society's sample bag. I also got some aged baozhong (300g) that is fifteen years old and absolutely excellent tea.

Amazing what random conversations with girls can lead to! I think I'll be back in TW again soon, and I look forward to more tea adventures!

jayinhk,

Only 300 grams of the aged boazhong! You were not at your best; or, was it expensive? Save a few grams, big guy. Some day we'll both be in the same city to share a pot.

Unfortunately she's not my type, but she seems to like me...she even bought me baozhong ice cream!

Ethan, I'll be back in Taipei regularly. Going to have some products manufactured here. I love Taiwan :)

Today's work/tea dilemma: at this satellite office I keep only one small porcelain teapot, and I was enjoying the competition TGY from YS still this morning, but by midday what it needed was *very* long steeps, and I had to empty out the leaves in order to get another tea going. If I were better equipped here, I could have kept those leaves going with a few more delicious several hour steeps....sigh.

Drinking Oriental Beauty I picked up yesterday. Only got a tael (37.5g). Interestingly I did all my tea shopping at one store this time. I had to grandpa it at the hotel, but now that I'm back in HK I can drink it any which way.

Good stuff...first time I've had Oriental Beauty. It's like black tea/oolong with a pleasant sweet aftertaste.
