Maybe not for everyday teas, but for once-in-a-while treats, I can usually justify spending a dollar a gram for a small sample size It's worth it

Right now I'm drinking the 8th infusion of a half-handmade Shu xian from EoT. Wonderful tea for only $.35/gram. I ordered 15 gram samples of the half-handmade teas and 7 gram samples of the handmade teas. Now I'll keep the flavor of this tea in mind when trying the expensive ones, which cost 3 times the price. I just hope that this tea doesn't sell out before I finish the samples.

I get my daily drinking Wu Yi from grandtea. I've been pretty happy with the taste/price ratio and they are pretty reliable.

Just trying to balance all the crazy folks telling you to spend $1/g.... I don't mind spending/drinking that kinda happy on occasion, but really, some of us have living expenses...

Did you ever get anything from the tea gallery before they shut down the internet store? I've always wanted to try the thousand mile scent, for example.

Only ever bought wuyi from Houde, and I've been pretty satisfied with all three I've ever bought. I've sampled from YS, Red Blossom, and Postcard teas--didn't really like any of them, but the last a bit. There are some really good anon bags of wuyi out there, though.

Hou De's are pretty terrible IMO –burnt. But, I like them for other things. TTG's 3 Stamp was the best of the style I've had, but not too much better than Geow Yong's.

Never been a fan of Hou De's yancha, but neither was I a fan of the 3-stamp SX from TTG. Way too much fire (much preferred the dark roasted TGY for a tea where the roast level covers up the inherent qualities of the leaf). The "100 year old tree" was the star of their Wuyi lineup, for me at least. I recall liking their TLH as well.

Mountain Tea, mentioned earlier, are a Taiwan teafarm outfit, selling direct

good stuff but not Wuyi as such

TeaSpring are another interesting supplier in China, worth a look

altho im in London, where Postcard Teas is, i aint tried their Yancha

i keep meaning to visit so i can sample some .. the shop is in a really posh

expensive location tho ..

I have hesitated responding to this thread because I have been a bit lost in Wuyi Oolong vendors myself lately.

Mandarins Tea Room has some stellar products, but you definitely pay for that quality.

Besides that I have looked at Hou De, Red Blossom, and Jing Tea Shop. Of which I have had varying successes and failures. Hou de has stuff heavily roasted but they seem to sell it far to soon, so unless you want to buy yancha and sit on it for 6 months if not an entire year, it will likely seem harsh. Red Blossom is nice, but slightly underwhelming. While Jing Tea Shop I feel you need to really pay for quality, and even then its a bit of a gamble. Jing Tea Shops budget stuff tastes just like it sounds, a budget offering, while their higher end stuff is hit or miss.

I want to try more places, but I have a hard time keeping up with orders for what teas I want to drink/ am drinking.

I've never bought young wuyi from Houde--2005 harvests bought in 2009, so roast had time to die down for my satisfaction.

TTG sold a SX (?) with the moniker "Hundred Year Tree". 'Twas excellent.

This is a varietal called "bǎi suì xiāng" (百岁香) - literally "100 year(s) fragrance". As best I know, this is its own varietal, and not shuixian.
