Oolong Dongchang?

by J. » Jan 23rd, '09, 07:07

Hello!

Yesterday, I've bought 112g of a tea called "Oolong Dongchang". I can't find any informations about it on the internet.

I'll try to describe it but i's hard because it's my first Oolong.
It has big black leaves and looks more like a black tea than a green one.
When infused, the odour is very strong and pungeant. I never smelled such a pungeant tea.
The taste is a bit flat compared to the odour. It hasn't the bitterness of a black tea, it's sweet like the others oolong, it has the aftertaste of green teas.

This description can look a bit fuzzy but it's hard to describe the first oolong I tasted.

Do you know something about Dongchang?

Thanks
Jean-Benoît

They're in loose leaves.

Yeah pictures would help us at least locate the region by the shape of the tea (generally)

It's too late to take pictures today.
I tried but it's too dark to take a good picture.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Here are the pictures.

It's quite hard to take good pictures because there isn't a lot of light outdoors (and there is still less indoors)

I hope these pictures will help.

They don't sound that close actually. Maybe the vendor mis-labeled it. Tea names are very confusing, like "dong ding" and "dong ting", "da wu ye" and "da ye wu"... haha :D

Dancong

Not a baozhong as they don't usually roast them that much. Also, the color of tea in glass looks heavily oxidized.

I agree that the dry tea leaf looks like a Dancong. Similar picture found here: ateacupdropped.

It's just packaged in a paper bag.
As all the teas I buy there.

This tea is heavily oxidized, I prefer that king of tea.
A few days ago, I taste "Jasmine pearl" OOlong. The smell is the thast than jasmine pearl but stronger(and really pungent).
