Around 15 months ago when I ordered a sampler of high mountain oolongs from floatingleavestea. Surprisingly though it wasn't the high mt. oolongs that caught my tastebuds the most. Although the high mt.'s were very good. It was a 1oz sample of wuyi. I was hooked from the first cup. Later I ordered Chinese wuyi from jingteashop and now its getting out of control
da yu ling in my cup today.

Gosh, must be pushing 20 years by now. It was a second flush Darjeeling from the Makaibari Estate, nothing terribly exotic, but after the mediocre Darjeeling blends from our local coffee emporium it came as a revelation. We remained hooked on Darjeelings for years.
A yummy tenryu misakubo in the cup at the moment. Tomorrow it's on to a new batch of Li Shan and Ali Shan oolongs.

Happy birthday, Guitar9876!
Hm, let's see, I think the first time I tried a tea and knew I was hooked was like 15 years ago. I was 5 years old, and my mother gave me some Earl Grey. That was my tea of choice for the next five or so years, then I tried green tea, and got totally hooked on that, just in general (though I like some kinds, like longjing, houjicha, and genmaicha, more than others). Three years ago, I tried pu-erh, and fell in love with that. And a couple of months ago, I had gyokuro for the first time, and oh my gosh, wow... Moral of the story, I'm pretty easy to please.
Chrysanthemum pu-erh this afternoon. Currently drinking some jasmine sencha.

About 3 years, when I first tasted oolong.
Not much tea today, busy, busy.

Almost exactly 2 years ago, actually. Over Thanksgiving 2 years ago, my mother got me for my birthday a very pretty tea set and two 100-g boxes of oolong tea. I can't recall ever having had it before, but I was hooked.

About a month or so ago I got my order of dancong, longjing, and maofeng. I really liked the maofeng, but the dancong and longjing were love at first sip. I am really getting interested in chinese greens and oolongs... Nearly any tea I try ends up as a favorite. I can't wait to be able to order more teas again soon. (I'm running very low and I think the Mrs. will cave and let me put in a small-ish order...)
Happy birthday Guitar9876!
No tea yet this morning, but I did make a blended tea drink for my wife for her early shift before she had to go. Thinking of some of that dancong... or maybe the last of the longjing... decisions.

I guess i am strange because i dont usually like a new type of tea the first time I try it. I my initial reactions when trying new tea varieties (oolong, white, green, pu) has either been ehh or yuck. This seems to happen even after brewing according to directions, after a few cups, most teas grow on me, green being the exception i kept trying with diffrent versions both chinese and japanese, but just cant get anything i find worth drinking.
The closest to love at first sip would probably be the first loose leaf tea i tried, earl grey de la creme. Like most other teas i have tried, i wasnt sure about it at first, but i could defintately see the improvement over tea bags.

Don't give up on the greens. It might all just be in the brewing. I had a hate hate relationship with them all for a long time before I figured out shorter infusions, cooler temps, and today I'm enjoying the OTTI #7 sencha tasting. It could happen to you.
Not that I'd forget senchas and puerhs and white teas, not at all.
