Friday TeaDay 3/11/11 Used Teaware?
Greetings Teachatters, TeaFriends. Welcome to a new TeaDay. Please do drop in throughout the day and share what is in your cup.
Yesterday we discussed cups we use versus those we do not. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Used teaware. How do you feel about purchasing used Teaware? Please share what sources you would or would not purchase from. And would you use them.
We are looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with ... EVERYONE. Bottoms up!

I love buying used tea ware, especially antique or old pieces. I do so frequently and it makes me so happy!

I haven't yet, but I suppose I would buy some antique stuff if the fancy should strike.
No tea so far today. Hoping for some Dragon Well later.

I am sure you already know about the big quake to hit Japan.
This was a huge quake!
I am sure all our thoughts and prayers are with our friends in Japan and the people of Japan in general.

Other - I'm sure I will in the future, but haven't yet.
This TeaDay is starting as the past several have recently, with a Lapsang Souchong. Weekday TeaDays start at work for me. I only have a couple of teas stocked at work right now.

Horrible situation. I am worried about many friends there. I have a lot not all that far from the epicenter and in serious risk of the tsunami issues.
best,

I would, but have not yet.

I have and would, though this is not the norm! Some nice gyokuro pieces, sets and houjins, hagi and bizen. A handful of chawan. And 1 kyusu. The pieces were exceptional or I would likely not have even considered it. But I am pleased with maybe all but 1 piece.
Great TeaDay despite seeing all the news on Japan. Began with Fuji the Ultimate from Zencha with the Mrs. Next up, a 2006 sheng pu-erhsample purchased a few years ago that is quite nice.

I do all the time! For pretty much any excuse, too, as long as I like the cup.
I wash things out super-well, and I obviously don't buy the cups if they're broken or filthy, but if it's a good-looking, clean, used cup, I see nothing wrong with buying it.
Rose congou this afternoon; rose sencha right now. (I love rose-scented tea!

Re: Friday TeaDay 3/11/11 Used Teaware?
I don't think any of my current teawares are used, but I would have no problem with used teawares, if I liked the particular pieces. They wouldn't have to be ultra special or antique. I have quite a few used utensils in my kitchen from thrift shops and other sources, but have not shopped a lot in thrift/antique/vintage shops since my recent increased interest in tea. I almost bought a cup last year when in San Francisco's Japantown, but it really was too big for my use, so left it to become someone else's treasure.
Another day with my Snowdrifts hagi, drinking Diamond TGY from Norbu and ManMai sheng puerh from EofT.
I needed abundant caffeine today to help scattered concentration after losing sleep last night getting in touch with my friends in Japan (all safe), and having that free-floating anxiety that comes of knowing something horrible has happened, wanting to help, but being unable to do anything about it at present.

Re: Friday TeaDay 3/11/11 Used Teaware?
I've bought some used things off members of TeaChat.
I'd love to have some antique pieces in the future (I usually eye things for a while, and then pass them up for something more to my size or price range). And I usually trust other members of TeaChat not to swap something too stinky.
Unfortunately, I have been given used things that required quite a lot of scrubbing/bleaching/prayer, but so far I've never been given something completely unusable.
To switch to the topic of un-used, two very different packages arrived today.
First, my very first hagi, by Kashun, ordered from Artistic Nippon.
Second, matching bowls from Cephalopod Ink.
I'll be posting in the Teaware topics later.
