Happened to me one time with a Vietnamese Sencha. The fragrance was intoxicating but the brew was toxic no matter how I tweaked it. And I'm a young Sheng Pu drinker

As it turns out, one of the memorably bitter teas was won of the worst (to my palate), but one of the others (the white bud sheng puerh), treated with more care, remains a favorite to this day.

Today was sencha, cold brewed da yu ling, and some of a taiwanese TGY that by itself was not so exciting but that I roasted a bit into a very nice mellow oolong.

 very nice...

I can take a fair amount of bitterness, but I have been overpowered by a few teas since I have begun drinking. If I recall correctly, they have been of the green variety, and either Chinese or Japanese.

But, I can't tell you whether they were due to brewing error or not....

At this time of year in Japan..... cold is good.

Actually....... how does it GET cold at this time of year in Japan?

best,

Hehe, true. More correct would be 'room temperature' :D It's also a bit more cooler here than in Nagasaki city with all those big buildings and everything covered by asphalt and concrete. Few days already it doesn't get higher than 31-32C

Recently from cold teas i drink mostly mugicha. And when i'm not lazy i brew lots of houjicha, after it cooled down pour it in 0.5 plastic bottles. Nice to grab a bottle when going out, tasty and it cost me a lot less than buying mediocre tea from vending machines  Houjicha from vending machine is... bitter!

Currently drinking another bowl of matcha with milk and sugar.

Do you brew your mugicha hot and then chill it, or cold brew all the way?

Cold brew, a lot less bother and i found no difference with hot brew. Using one tea bag for 2L overnight.

Some sheng pu samples knocked me for a loop. Brewed it like shu and it turned my mouth into a vortex of bitterness  .

Drinking on some random teas here on my vacation since the expensive matcha and sencha I ordered didn't come in in time. I've had some 2010 TGY one brews from puerhshop, some magnolia single leaf dancong cold brew, and finished off the rest of my warashina supreme 2010. Tomorrow I'm making premiere SX yancha from IPT before breakfast. Very eclectic mix!
