I made a second infusion of the Darjeeling Silver Tips with ice water. mmmmm. This brings out the sweet and fruity notes perfectly. I am also getting floral notes in this infusion.

In my imagination, this tea would be good with a small amount of lavender blended in. Alas, this is the last of a small sample, so that idea will have to wait for another day.
Brewing joy, happiness and green tea, like any good TeaWitch should!

Chip... what makes it perfect for gyo? I am trying to learn about teaware, considering starting a teapot collection. (trying to pump up the post volume for ya)

MMMM, just ate my used gyo leaves with a little soy sauce and a touch of vinegar. A Japanese tradition of not wasting the precious gyokuro leaf.

Many gyokuro pots are very small compared to even their small cousins, standard kyusu designed for sencha. This one holds about 120ml to the lip. The others I got are even smaller. High quality gyo is often brewed in 60-100 ml batchs.

Since low temps are used, no handle is required...also no spout or screen per se, just an extended lip with "teeth" to hold the leaf in when pouring. Looking much like a gaiwan for dummies complete with a lid.

I need to take pics...but for now I will find a photo on line and post it later I hope. The ones I got are "artisan" but at lower cost than their Japanese versions.

The company included a bunch of Korean tea samples. Some are like sencha and others are "strange" to me.

Garden. There's still 9 or 10 more out there. They grow like weeds here.

As a Darjeeling enthusiast, I think smell is very important. I just love the smells of these. I find scent a reasonably good predictor of whether I will like a tea.

Right now I'm enjoying some 2003 Dayi Yiwu Arbor pu-erh. A perfect tea for "smell day"! Whenever I drink this tea I spend half the session with my nose in the gaiwan enjoying the wonderful smoky-tobacco odor.

I'd be more averse to drinking a tea if it smelled funky. Smell is pretty important, just like sight. We judge with our eyes (and nose) before we ever taste something!

I had an awesome tea day today. I finally opened Den's Hashiri Shincha. I found it very mild, tasty, but different from the other sencha that I have tried. The main thing that surprised me about it was the color of the tea liquid. It was a pale yellow-green. I guess I am used to the deep green from the Fukamushi that I just finished.

The other thing that made my tea day so good was that I was able to give my best friend a gift of tea. She is moving from Central New York to Kentucky next weekend so I wanted to get her something special as a going away gift. She had made the mistake of telling me that she was interested in tea since she would be starting a new job with a long commute and didn't like coffee. I went a little bit overboard with excitement so she ended up with the IngenuiTea black tea sampler and 8 other tea samples, including a few from my stash. She was completely thrilled with the gift. We also had a good chat about tea and other random stuff over a pot of Valentines, which she really liked. I am going to miss her, but it was a fun evening.

No tea pictures today. We were way too busy supervising the contractors we hired to clean our gutters. I gotta say, they did a rotten job.

Awww!! Cute!

My afternoon tea was Beidou Yi Hou Wuyi Oolong that I am trying to decide if it goes in the oolong pass box or not.
