I don't know where to begin for pu-erh, so all other pu aromas go here.

Sal...... did you break the handle off your kyuusu again......

My favorite scent is the musty/post-rain smell that comes off aged sheng pu-erh.

2008 Sencha fuka-midori in my cup. Blended at 3 parts sencha, 1 part kukicha.

Chocolate!

Floral/fruity comes in second place.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a teaday poll with the votes so diversely spread out. Good thing there are so many options for everyone's individuality. That's part of what I love about tea... something for every person, every day, every mood, every appetite.

If I had to choose a favorite tea scent, I would vote for floral. However, I also like sweet/honey, fruity (certain types), toasty, nutty, or grassy. I am finding that the order of my favorites do change with the seasons. I am sure in the fall, I will be drinking teas with more nutty or toasty tea scents.

This morning, I enjoyed a nice mug of adagio's TKY.

What is meant by the tea scent "marine", and what types of teas give off this type of scent?

I would call it a kelpy, fishy odor/flavor. It's occasionally found in Japanese greens.

In my cup: a blend of Adagio's White Peach and White Blueberry. I brewed up a whole lot to chill for iced tea, but couldn't resist drawing some off to enjoy right away :)

I didn't vote because it's just about impossible for me to pick a single favourite flavour*. I love the grassiness of Japanese greens, but am also very fond of fruitiness (see above), nuttiness (literal and figurative), and so forth. Even floral qualities are welcome when the flower happens to be jasmine.

Frankly, I don't know how people can make a choice on this one. I admire you voters' singlemindedness!

I was feeling a slight soreness in my throat yesterday and generally out of whack...and today I definately seem to have a cold. Go figure, first days of Summer and I get a cold.

So, my sense of smell is shot today for the most part.

Yeah, this question was not easy to say the least. Most of us appreciate the different scents in different teas. I like the sweet florals to honey of green oolongs. The grassy, astringent veggie, sweet of Japanese greens. Hard to pick one. Have to think about it a bit more.

Golden Monkey from adagio this morning. Even with a stuffed and runy nose, I could pick up the chocolate aroma.

Hatsumi is back in my cup currently. Although it is more fukamushi than not this year, it is not as deep steamed as the Supreme from O-Cha, IMHO. Hatsumi seems more grassy this year perhaps, definitely sweet, veggie too. Has an astringent punch that can be adjusted to personal taste...and thus is not as smooth as the Supreme.

It has a lot of character...a really nice compliment to other sencha in my line up.

I like a sweet and fruity smell for my tea.
Today I had a iced English High Grown Blend Black tea which was only good sweetened because it was so bitter (steeped for 4 minutes).

Toasty for me. Some days I like floral, others grassy; but I never get tired of toasty!

So far a rather boring Ceylon Kenilworth and then a frighteningly cotton candy-like Silk Oolong. I think I need to go find an old standard to make sure my taste buds don't hold this Tea Day against me.

I chose 'other' since I can't quite pinpoint what I like. Most tea smells wonderful to me except for smoky, vanilla, earthy or overly grassy (like fertilizer).

This morning I had Irish Breakfast, followed by Ginger Peach, iced and now an iced combo of ceylon sonata and assam melody.

Fruity! That one was easy.

Today in the cup:

Den's Sakura Sencha. I really need to finish this one up, but I use so little at a time that the 2 ounces I bought seems like it is lasting forever.

grassy

by laran7 » Jun 22nd, '08, 17:03

The fresh grassy scent is so ephemeral and reminds me of something fleeting - a time of possiblilies rather than anything specific. I did not expect it in a tea and when I had the TKY - I was totally charmed -

I did not know that tea was charming.
