That's one weird dream you had there, CynTEAa.

HALP! x2

I am having it also along with a nagging feeling that I am living in the future.

HINT: If you could go back another day or two you would still be on vacation.

Well, if this is a dream...then yes, I can go back and be on vacation-- brilliant!

It depends on what you were aiming at.
Very good question! It is likely the lack of aiming that is the problem. (BTW - I love your brain, Sal! :D )

Been having vivid dreams lately. In one of them I came back to TeaChat and everyone was talking about SODA.

Now, here's another weird thing.

I stopped at a corner store today to pick up a sandwich on the way to work, and as I was about to leave, the clerk said: "Do you want a free pop?" Turns out she had some Sprite that's a whisker past its best-by date, and she was giving bottles out for free.

That's the first time in my life this has happened to me.

So, the dream continues............

Is that what they call soda in BC like in Minnesota? Or could he have been offering you an unsolicited parent.

I still haven't gotten used to people calling it "tonic" here.

Are you kidding? You mean they call Coke or Orange Crush or Dr Pepper or Sprite "tonic"? What do they call tonic? That's about the only of that ilk that I drink... and then only with a twist. If I'm really getting jiggey, I might splash in some juniper berry juice* for the aroma.

But pretty much none of that happens except in Chicago blues bars.

Mmmmm... gin. Hendricks is my #1 poison of choice. Wait! does this means "tonic" counts as "soda?" I'll need to change my answer.

Oh yeah, around here they call it "pop," too.

100% serious. It is a very weird Massachusetts phenomenon. If someone is offering you a Coke or Sprite or whatever, they'll sometimes ask if you want a "soda," once in awhile a "pop," but a fair number will offer a "tonic." 14 years and I still haven't acclimated.

I think since there are so many tourists in the area they usually understand if you ask for tonic and lime (although many people specify "tonic water" to be sure.)

True story - When I was a kid I went out to dinner with my parents. The waitress was pretty young and quite new. My dad ordered a scotch and soda. The waitress asked him what kind of soda. Mmmm....scotch and orange soda? Yikes.

I did that at the first job I had. Guy asked me for a dewars and water, and I was like uh wtf is that? and he just told me to tell the bartender and they'd know. After I saw the drink i realized what it was.

I still amaze at how coke has people brainwashed into asking for a coke when they don't really care what kind it is. How often do you hear someone ask, can i have a pepsi please?

The term "coke" (lowercase C) is generic here for soda/pop.

Kids--"we wanna coke"
Waitress--"what kind?"

And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

In that case, I'd rather have a free pup :)

I have no idea what people usually call that sweet carbonated stuff. People in urban BC are from all over the place, to start with. I've heard it called a soft drink, a soda, a pop, a soda pop (now there's a way to hedge your bets!), and even a fizzy drink - by my British husband. About the only thing I haven't heard hereabouts is Katrina's "tonic".

What's normal out here? No idea!
