Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Love those black pots....like the classic little black dress, they go with everything, don't they?
Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Yes, I'm quite happy with it. It is a sasame filter though which I believe you generally aren't thrilled with? I do have one sasame pot that is prone to getting clogged up but this guy hasn't given me any issues.Alex wrote:Wow that's a nice pot! I hear they are functionally spot on?
I did initially have some dripping off of the spout but that seems to have been my fault. The angle between the spout and the handle is narrower than on any of my other pots so when I poured the spout naturally ends up angled towards my hand and arm a bit. I would try and compensate for this and have the spout pointing closer to straight down. Of course the potter also took this into account and had already adjusted the end of the spout to compensate

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
I'm actually good with all filters these days. I prefer direct and ball just cause they are handmade but sasame have their place. Its a lovely looking pot! Sort of looks like a kyusu that's survived a house fire and then been left in a derelict building for a hundred years.
Re: Ode to the Kyusu

shimizu ken mumyoi kyusu 140mL. enjoying it with some oriental beauty right now. i really love it. this particular piece seems to have a lot of tonal contrast built into the potter's wheel streaks. the contrast you see in that image is only partially from the lighting.
you can see it in hojo's original product photo:

kinda cool.
i got it a couple of months ago along with one of the new carbonized reduction akitsu mumyoi houhins by tozo.

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Not got anything new for a while so splashed on something a bit special (For me atleast)
180ml Natural Tokoname Clay by Gisui with Yohen
Stunning piece and with its fine ball filter can handled anything. Was expensive but totally worth it! Usually the weakest part of his amazing pots is the filter but this one has probably one of the best ball filters I've seen. Just handled a bottom of the bag last brew session of Fuka like a champ!
Annoyingly that was the last of my tea. So I gotta wait a while now before using this again
anyday now!
Pedant. Glad to see someone else buying those lovely pieces. Treasure is well as what's up on Hojo is the last of his work!. And you got a lovely pot right there enjoy it!

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
wow, very nice!
did you just get it a week ago from ebay (looks a lot like it)?
gorgeous kyusu, enjoy
edit: assuming that's the same one, the yohen effect looks really cool. couldn't see it well from the angles in your photos.

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Yeah that's the one. The yohen shows up different in different lights. I had to watch it sit on ebay till it finished and then put in an offer to the seller. It wasn't a nice feeling getting attached and then watching it for 20 days. Paid off though

Kyusu by Konishi Yohei, Tokoname City Human Cultural Asset, and "master" of Shiraiwa Taisuke.
Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Nice pots there Tsubo!
I especially like the Yohei one. The handle on it is unique and that red/orange spot contrasts nicely with the color of the pot. What is your favorite thing about it?
Also the designs on the kutani pot are very cool.
