It don't look half bad. Good idea with the hemp twine.
I would not have liked nor trusted the repair w/o it. I decided on doing this before I even attempted the repair.

So, after at leat 10 sessions each, around 50 steeps or more each ... still holding ... knock on clay!

All things considered, you got off pretty easy this time. Are you going to file it down?

Chip there really do not seem to be any sharp edges, so currently I am leaving it as is. When the lid is on it completely covers the chip.

Now will the fact that it is there, drive you a bit crazy?

Its been a bit of a sore reminder and I hesitate to reach for that pot sometimes, but I am mainly thankful that the damage was so minor, and that the lid was not broken. (It happened when I was picking up the lid with wet fingers, and the lid was slipping out of my hand and fell sideways onto the opening.)

happiness and sadness mixed in together for me today: just got a brand new gaiwan which i like a lot, 60ml, thin porcelain, perfect for single person drinking. left ten-ren chicago happily surprised. on the way home, some fella knocked into me and sadly the lid of the gaiwan got chipped.

this is the gaiwan so painfully troubled from its infancy:

and here the lid up close:

but its still a lovely gaiwan. its going to see heavy use. i just hope the chip doesn't get worse/affect the brew!

That is a most unfortunate turn of events! Did you get to use it pre break?

I find the chips can really bug me, but I learn a lesson of acceptance.

i didn't! a great pity. the gaiwan's mint condition was more fleeting than tea...

Hmm...that could be seen as beneficial! With larger-leafed teas, the hole created by the chip could serve as a sort of spout.

haha actually, once i got home, i tested it by filling the gaiwan with water and placing the lid on fully and then turning it over. very little water made it out through the hole :)

im a little scared of using the chip side of the lid for decanting though. dunno if stress would worsen it.

I think its an important thing in life to learn chip. I'm not there yet but I'm slowly getting there. I'm such a perfectionist and its good up to a point but once you go over 90% and start nearing utter perfection life throws a curve ball and says no. Dont fight it..... give in.

I do like everything on my tea table to be perfect so just relegate chipped or broken to outside and travel wares.....but I really shouldnt care.

This is the proper way of thinking. Can I have some of your mind?
