My "all time favorite" is an Hakeme Karatsu Chawan as well which I found about a year ago. I hope you'll present your treasure once you find it.

BTW, this gintsugi is really well made.
It is quite rare to find craftsmen nowadays who use flakes (usually silver or gold) over a repair; harder finding someone who does nashiji-makie repairs even in Japan.

Oh nice! I bought from him at least twice.

Even with normal gintsugi it's hard to find well made pieces. Most pieces with a repair of good quality are the ones with gold. Of course most kintsugi is of bad quality (and fake gold) as well but there is just more overall.

Talking about Maki-e: Do you know any artisan offering takamakie? I'd like to "refresh" the kintsugi of the Hakeme Karatsu Chawan I mentioned above but didn't find anybody offering such so far.

Silver print on lacquer, lacquer over the top several layers, finely grind away layers with a piece of charcoal. Polish.

Maintain flatness of the charcoal using a water stone.

Looking at this, made me think that you might try having a similar outside w/ the glazed inside the color of a red beet. (I ate beets last night)

it does look like an old beet, does it not ?

Most of my experience is with natural glazes only - ash , rust and flux.
I will be joining a Swedish raku master's workshop this summer, It will be nice to learn more of color.
