Seeker,

I thought there was something a bit different to your approach when inquiring about the kohiki chawan.... referring to it as "my precious" and "we wants it for ourselves".

It's all clear now!

Enjoying the pics!

Today my sweetheart and I shared matcha and mochi.
We used the two red Jay Strommen chawan (which he calls shino shigaraki bizen).

The reason he calls it that is so it will show up every time someone searches for shino, shigaraki or bizen. Of course it is neither shino, shigaraki nor bizen.

So then, red chawan of unknown glaze and style, by Jay Strommen.
Makes me curious about what glaze and style these are.

That would seem to be the logic, but, in a conversation with him, he told me he uses Bizen and Shiga clays, sometimes mixed together. It also looks like he does use Shino but his style and coloration really change the look. I like his work a lot.

Whatever they are ... or are not, they are a stunning pair! I have admired them from an earlier showing. I think I even asked their size ... but I will ask again?

Thanks for adding to our matcha days, Seeker and Victoria.

Hi Chip,
I don't remember your having asked about the size of the
two strommen reds, and I apologize if I goofed and overlooked it.
The slightly larger one is 3.9"w x 4"h.
The not much smaller is about 3.7"w x 3.9"h.
I love the pools of green crystalized ash at the chadamari.
edit/add-pools were hidden today by matcha mt. fujis :?
Best,
seeker
