Hi chrl 42,

Thanks for sharing the photos of those wonderful shui ping pots in your collection. I am a big fan of this design. Many collectors say this design is boring but I think it is the most well designed pot in terms of usage and aesthetic. This design is based on geometric proportions and "endure watching". It looks simple but reveal itself to be nicer the longer you watch and use it.

Have a great tea day!

Cheers! :D

Such a great topic, I love Yixing teapots, and recently bought one, when I intended to get some oolong and pu'er online, just happened to see that beauty, couldn't wait to show it off, haha.

Clay: Yixing brown clay.
Size: 150 ml
Age/Year: Modern
Walls: Thin
Source: Purchased at Nannuoshan( an online teashop)
Tea Pairing: TGY or oolong (No green tea for sure)
Info: the name of this beauty is Zhu chu hu. The main body is reflected in the knob, which has a concave and a convex line ending in a flat top.The teapot’s brown finish is slightly rough. Its compact shape can be manipulated with one hand, allowing me to easily reach the lid hole to regulate tea flow, which is very nice.

I failed to attached its picture, can anyone tell me how to do that? hmmm, I'll post its photo later, and tell me how u guys think of it.

Hi,

I'm a total monkey when it comes to Chinese wares & jixing pots.

I got this rather cheap on eBay (listed to be like 30 years with a pile of salt), and I'm interested to know a little bit more about it. I hope that maybe here, (wink Poseidon thx :)), where people are more knowledgeable then moi, people perhaps recognize it as either fake or are able to pin-point it to its origin.

Thank you in advance,

Sorry if this isn't rotated the right way (goes for both photo's):

I don't think it is a Yixing pot. Looks like a poorly done replica, sorry.

You can buy decent stuff on eBay though.

I acquired a fancy teapot recently! The drawing is barely visible, it becomes very apparent when we pour hot water into it. The clay is very high quality Benshan green clay.

This is a Yixing all right. Nothing special but should do tea without problems.

What does a Yixng replica mean?
Other clay imitates Yixng?

Nice pot! I really like the handle. It looks like a well made pot. From the picture, the clay looks like duanni to me - but I might be wrong, it's hard to judge from pictures. You can try to observe how the color changes when you steep tea in it a few times. If it is benshan lv ni it will develop a greenish shine, if it's duanni it will become a bit browner. Sometimes yellow duanni is sold as ben shan lv ni. Duanni can be very good quality too - I recently got a duanni pot as well.

Yes, Yixing clay is limited and expensive so there are other clays that are sold as Yixing despite they really aren't. In this case I can't see well from the pictures. From the closeup of the lid the texture of the clay seems a bit odd for yixing, but the pitcure of the bottom of the pot seems to show some silica crystals that would be a good sign IMO. So I am not sure whether it's Yixing or not.

I am pretty sure it's benshan lv ni, the owner of this pot is a good friend of my uncle, they mentioned about this clay. Although the owner always called it benshan lv ni; my uncle call it duanni, since he said that green clay is categorized as duanni.

They are rare teapot collectors, I got shown a teapot from the Qing Dynasty and some other antique ones. The owner took them out from the cabinet, I didn't dare to touch them.

Hello esteemed tea people! I am incredibly new, as evinced by this being my first post. I was wondering if this were the place to get some insight into a couple of pots I own. Neither is particularly special, but I think knowing a bit more about them would aid in my education.

The first is a pot I got at Aroma Tea Shop in San Francisco. It's HUGE at 300+ mL and is more suited to western style brewing, I believe?

The second I got off an eBay vendor in Texas that seemed to be liked around here, at least some time ago, Chineseteapotgallery. It's just a cheapy 200mL number with a leaf motif, that was sold as Ru Yi, although I don't see it? I thought Ru Yi was a particular leaf pattern sometimes decorating a pot, not a shape? I like, it despite it just being a silly decorative thing. It's got a horribly slow pour at about 24 seconds, though.

Also, has anyone got any experience with Etsy sellers? I know one teachat member has a shop, springteaware, and I was looking at them to "upgrade." There's also another seller that dominates the listings by far, Chinateaware. Their photography skills are certainly nice, but after contacting them, I'm being given sort of a hard sell that their wares are 100% hand-made, which throws up some red flags with me when at least one complicated piece they're selling is available from a different seller on eBay at a spectacularly inflated price. I'm just curious if their prices are okay despite the sort of questionable feeling pitch or if I'd be getting another piece as the two here, which I suspect are slipcast from the price point and the flat indentation where the handle meets the body, but at twice the price. I don't know if it's worth taking the risk with these folks and potentially "paying my tuition" as the saying goes.
