Interesting, you don't need to go all the way to China to find pots like this
What's with all the edition thing?

Did I miss sth?

Hi Marshaln,

I didn't understand what happened. I have just asked out of curiosity. But I don't understand why exempt remove his reply...

If people think it's a cheap pot then it's not really worth posting about. :(

I didn't say it's a cheap pot, but I did say it's probably not quite as rare or special as advertised either, unfortunately. Another case of Verdant being, well, them. I'm sorry to have caused you to remove your content - it's still a very functional pot.

The pot Exempt posted looks quite similar to the first link Ed posted.

I knew when It was purchase it wasn't rare or special. It was just a fairly inexpensive yixing for everyday use. Maybe someday I'll splurge and buy a nice, one of a kind artisian pot, but that is unlikely in the near future.

Well, I was just surprised when you mentioned Verdant that on their much touted China trip all they could find was something that is really pretty common. It's more directed at Verdant than at you. I hope they didn't charge a sky high price for it.

But anyway, I should shut up and let the showoff thread continue. Sorry for the distraction.

Tacha's custom made teapot for y2012 is finally out. This year they have 4 teapot in a set. Total 30 sets. It is not necessary to purchase by set. They do sell it in loose.

Image

It comes in 4 different clay
-Di Cao Qing (right)
-Qing Hui Ni (bottom)
-Lao Duan (left)
-Zhu Ni (top)

Clay are from the studio's oldest stored clay from 90s. Top grade stuff. Teapots are very high fired.

This year, the shop got an artist to do the carving too. The 4 designs are based on Chinese phrase. Something to do with 4 gentlemen represented in chrysanthemum, orchid, bamboo, plum (iirc). I will ask them again for the proper name.

All the pots are using the same mold but shrinkage is very obvious. According to them, the purer the clay the shrinkage ratio is higher

From largest (top) to smallest (down). Guestimates should be 220ml to 180ml. I will measure it next time.

The teapot texture feels good when touch. Workmanship is good. Semi handmade. Multi-hole.

Only 1 month and they have sold 23 sets. I have earlier reserved a set but didn't want to collect today. I wanna wait to collect on 12/12/12. Memorable day to bring home this beautiful set :)

Tacha has also invited 8 top teapot artist to give a talk at their shop this Sat 2pm. I will try to snap photos and do some coverage....

Wait until you see my pots!
None of them is that good, at best average

The important thing is.Do do they improve tea somehow? I mean when comparing against porcelain. If it is then use it!

Take care.

Someone has to fill me in on this... Why is this size so popular in China/Taiwan? Is the average Yixing user there always drinking with multiple friends? Are they not pushing the tea to it's limits, but drinking in a much more relaxed style? Are they such fiends that they need to gongfu in something so big? Why are sub 100ml pots more difficult to find?

I think yes, there is more social drinking, but there is also more drinking in large cups (especially so in SE Asia).

I think it's worth keeping in mind that drinking tea brewed very strong in small cups is not the only way to brew tea.
